There were some years when I was single and was traveling 200-250 or more days each year to the far reaches of the planet as an Air Force Aviator that I rented rooms from home owners so I could live on the cheap and build up my wealth to invest it. I got the boot from one good deal living situation when the friend I was living with decided to get married. I still remember when he broke the news. His bride to be was present when they announced to me that they were getting married. I knew them both and was very happy for them, but that meant I was going to have to find another place to live... of course, my reply was: Shall we draw straws to see who gets to live here?

After getting kicked out of that house I moved into the basement of my female bank teller friend. She wanted to buy a house but needed to rent out a room to be able to afford the mortgage. We made a deal, she bought the house and I moved in. She never asked me to help clean but I'm the kind of person who wants to do my share so when I'd clean the bathroom (there was only one, this was an old small home) I'd notice that she'd clean it again anyway. I asked her about that and she said that she cleans once a week whether or not a cleaning is needed because otherwise she might get lazy about it. I learned from that and now I clean our restrooms once a week whether or not it's needed. My wife doesn't do house chores so they all fall on me. If you clean once a week, in most cases you won't have things discoloring. If you have lots of iron in your water you might need to use iron out every once in a while, but other than that, a once a week cleaning should stay ahead of any deposits that might want to take over your restroom.

So while I can't relate to the horror situations in all of the possible selections except for "other" in the poll in my own residences, I've surely seen and experienced the unworldly horror in some public restrooms and in homes I've visited.

You are very likable @Tall_Timbers

I flush the toilet after use of course :) I have yet to help out on cleaning at home. Thanks for reminding me.

My current job is such that I attend nature's call wherever I go. Toilet. Out in the open. Such is the nature of my job. Excuse me for my honesty.

I'm in a rush all the time. So when it's go time, I go wherever I can. Try to use the toilet most of the times though. When I can't, then it's in the open.

Once a week..but is bathroom the same as toilet?
Because my bathroom has a bath in it. And a shower.

The toilet is a separate room all of its own. It gets scrubbed and bowl cleaner (Harpic) once a week. I'd wipe the seat with Dettol disinfectant as well. Between times you just need to make sure its flushed and clean after you have used it. i.e no splashes on the seat or other nasties. Also that the window is open for ventilation, and there is enough toilet paper.

The bath I clean after I have used it, and I use it most days. I don't like cleaning the shower though, its just.a lot of scrubbing and wiping and emptying the trap, which can be smelly.

Also stray hairs that may clog the sink.

Mum used to do it, but now Dad and I share the tasks, and there is a day we do it (Thursday) before rubbish bin day which is Friday. I sweep and he mops the floors.

Anyway we have no live-in housekeeper, maid or domestic servants, so I always wondered about the rich people who have these things. How much do they pay people, if by the hour, do they want people to do a quick job that won't be so good so they pay less, or do they want people to be thorough and pay them more cos it will take longer? And how big a house would you need be that you require separate servants? What about those mansions that are so huge, that the servants practically have to live there, so have to clean their own bathrooms in addition to yours. And would they just do that every single day? Do they even get a day off?

A quick wipe-down a few times a week and a more thorough cleaning once a week can help prevent germs, stains, and unpleasant odors from building up.

Lol...

Normally, I'm obviously the first one to vote... But every. single. one. of those options absolutely horrifies me, so I'm sitting here a little too shell-shocked to participate in my own poll!!!
They had me crying with laughter, it's amazing how you just keep coming up with these brilliant, often fun threads.

However, there is a serious side to it too, i think being over clean is really bad too, we do need some challenge to develop/maintain a healthy immune system. Personally think a blitz once or twice a week is enough, with a daily wipe down of important areas. Domestos always for the lav bowl but i've added essential oils to good washing up liquid for over 40 years, rather than use proprietary products for cleaning. Must admit i do like Method products too tho, don't know if they're available in the US:

Including a photo of my bathroom, my phone camera is dying, so it's very grainy and the floor covering looks yucky. It's actually quite a nice beech colour, i do like my bathroom and it's important to me that it's somewhere i want to spend time in:

Bath 1.jpg

The wire on the heater is because the phone must be charging to take a photo now. I use my rigs/desktops for nearly everything, so smartphones matter very little to me. I'm an ethernet, not wireless, user too, it is considerably more secure than wireless, that's for sure.

Blessings and hugs for yet another fun thread Seoulsis 🤗
