Interesting thread, I must admit I don't understand the why and
the why nots fully, I only know healings do take place, I have experienced
this myself and I have seen others healed also. I know some healings
which have taken place instantly and others which have happened
gradually. I have also had problems which still persist and others which
have been healed.
I suspect a lack of healing is linked to a lack of faith or a wrong way
of claiming our authority in knowing who we are in Christ. Or of
not understanding God's timing.
I think sometimes we can claim and hold onto illness. A friend of mine
had diabeties. For a long time she use to tell people "I am diabetic" then
after praying and reading verses about healing in the bible she felt God
was telling her that she is not diabetic that she should not hold onto her
disease, that rather she is a person who happens to have diabeties, but
she is not diabetic. The difference is that she was owning the illness.
That was a while ago, now I can tell you all that she is no longer a person
with diabetes!
A few years ago I developed a painful hard bony lump at the base of a finger,
it definitely was not just a blister, it felt hard and seemed to be a joint
problem. After a month it was getting worse and I had just about got to the
point of going to the doctor, when instead I decided to pray about it.
I prayed scripture over my finger and was so determined that I had been
healed that I decided I was not even going to think about it any more.
A week later I realised the lump had completely gone and it has never
come back!
10 years ago I had Graves' disease. That entailed 3.5 years of going to
hospital for blood tests every 6 weeks - very frustrating. Eventually I
got sick and tired of being sick and tired and decided I was going to
believe God for healing no matter what. At the very next appointment my
doctor said the bloodwork was more stable than it had ever been before!
From that point onwards things continued to improve and 6 months later I
was discharged and free of the disease - that was a gradual healing but the
starting point was that pray time.
On the other hand I have had an eye problem for three years, but I have
never really got to grips with it and prayed about it with any great
conviction. It's one of thise niggley things which it is possible to live
with and is not that great a deal. Maybe I need to pray onto this more
and not learn to live with it.
I have seen bad backs healed instantly in my church.
On the other hand I know a woman who was in an accident and ended
up quadriplegic. there was prayer for healing and she gradually got
sensation and movement in her legs a year later. It took another two years to
get full sensation, feeling and full movement back in her upper body.
For a long time she wondered why God had healed her legs, but left the rest of
her body for so long. During a quite time with God, she said she felt God was
saying to her that she was only interested in the healing of her body. But God
was more interested in the healing of her mind and spirit. During that time in the
wheel chair she said she learned about patience, faith, humility, to take one day
at a time. etc. Then God healed her fully. This woman by the way is a top
scientist and physicist who is trained to question everything and she herself
testifies that before the accident she was a Christian but use to put God in
a box.
