I believe we should all be sober and vigilant in our walk with Christ, and most especially with how HIS Word is being taught to others. Most people (Christian or not), being completely absorbed with their wants and needs, their hopes and dreams, and their current personal struggles that become more real to them than our Almighty and Everlasting Father GOD and KING, fall easy prey to teachings focused on making them "feel good" and gain prosperity in this life.
True, our LORD's blessings truly abound for those who are HIS. Any true believer is certainly overwhelmed and filled with a humbling sense of awe for our GOD's expression of love to us daily, even before we ever came to being. Papa GOD truly, deeply, loves us so!!!
But we are not to focus on gaining these so-called blessings from our LORD. We are called to seek first HIS kingdom and HIS righteousness, and to let HIM take care of everything else in our lives, adding to us all things as HE sees fit, according to HIS perfect sovereign will. Reminding us, too, not to worry or be mindful about our so-called needs, even the desires of our hearts. For when we focus and give our all to HIM, HE will provide for it all.
Matthew 6:25-34 King James Version (KJV)
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek
for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Psalm 37:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Our Awesome GOD has got us completely covered, yes. But Satan finds ways to still get to us. And get to us, he shall, if we stray from our devotion to GOD and HIS Holy Word. And if we let our human nature and lusts get the better of us.
The enemy will not sit idly by. He hates us humankind with perfect hate. He will do everything to deceive us, and lead us astray. And he will try to take as many souls with him to Hell. And how does he do that? By tickling our ears, and making us feel good about ourselves and life, without GOD in the picture. And he does this using false teachers. People who profess to be Christian, and yet teach a different gospel, focused on Prosperity and Blessings.
As a Christian, we think we know better. We'll say "If GOD's not part of the picture, I don't want to have anything to do with it!!!"
But what if they, the False Teachers, claim that this is what GOD is telling you to take to heart? To believe that all Christians should strive to feel good, be rich, and live the dream life that most people covet and aspire for? Saying it's not wrong to desire these, and that we are entitled to these so-called riches and blessings?
There is nothing wrong about claiming our LORD's blessed promises to us. HE is, after all, fashioning us to believers who completely trust in HIS goodness, faithfulness, mercy, strength, grace and love for us HIS saints through faith in Christ Jesus. But if we start treating HIM like a bank in the sky, or a sugar daddy, or a vanity mirror, expecting HIM to do everything to make us feel good about ourselves, and be happy and rich, demanding or "conning" HIM to do our bidding, reciting key verses and praying special prayers for HIS blessings to come pouring down upon us....then I think we terribly mistaken. I don't think we see nor treat GOD as truly the GOD of our lives, but instead, the WORLD.
1 John 2:15-17 King James Version (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Let us strive, instead, to seek and to love our Holy LORD with all that we are. We owe EVERYTHING to HIM, and in HIM we have all things. Let us not be blinded and sidetracked by our earthly desires and burdens. Let us be careful not to be deceived. Let us be wise and have discernment that comes from our GOD and KING, who tells us to ask and seek after these gifts that we may receive them from HIM. Let us take care of one another, and love each other with a true GODly and Holy love. Let's do that by spreading the TRUE Gospel and Doctrine of Christ, and to call out the False Teachers who pretend to be one of us!!!
