They're the ones you're most vulnerable with, the ones you give the most of yourself to. Love is risk. It's a cruel irony.

Why the one we love most hurt us the most :(
Lack of agape love.
Romans 13:
*Love does no harm to a neighbor
I love my kids the most. They never hurt me. Unconditional love.
I used to think this in relationships. I love him so much. Why does he hurt me? Because it was in one case no love, just selfish love, the other case he didn't really love me either anymore and my love grew cold too, just human love, conditional. Old wounds not healed up, offense.

The ones we love the most hurt us because if we didn't love them they couldn't hurt us.

This makes me think of the following quote:
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” - C.S. Lewis

I believe the closer you are to a person the more trust you invest in them, when they do something to hurt you it hurts the trust that you have put into them as a person. Because you spend a lot of time with people you are closer too then say outsiders, their life becomes connected to your life so to speak, and when they hurt you it feels like a part of you is getting hurt (the part you gave to the other person via friendship, marriage, business contracts etc..)....
