It really makes no difference to keeping the Sabbath, but they said they found Jesus was risen that day, it doesn't say He arose that day.
After that time, the Jews held the council that was head of the Christian Church in Jerusalem. After Bar Kochba headed the Jewish rebellion in 134 AD that resulted in the massacre of the Jews by the Romans, the gentiles took over leadership. Under the gentile leadership there was more and more talk of eliminating any Jewish practice from the church. They didn't study scripture enough to find out what was to be kept eternally and what Paul was speaking of as unnecessary, it was a movement to eliminate all of it. Constantine helped this movement along, finally legislating against anything of the Jews. By reading a report of the Nicene Council, you find statements about this, especially in explaining Easter to replace Passover.
