If we are wise, as we study the scriptures, we learn from both the right and wrong choices made by others in the past. We also know that there is "nothing new under the sun" per scripture. We're all still doing some things wrong and some things right. Seems like it would be wise to learn from those things as well, so I thought it might be a good idea to share situations we've witnessed or personally experienced in an attempt to both encourage and protect one another. Please post your situation/story and what you learned from it, good and/or bad. DISCLAIMER: Please do not post situations about other people from CC. The idea is to learn something, not to gossip or embarrass anyone, right? :)

I learned a couple of painful lessons today. I learned that its easy to fool yourself into thinking someone is your friend when they really truly aren't.

Unfortunately, that's a lesson we all learn far too often :( Love anyway :)

This is actually a first for me. I'm very wary of becoming friends with anyone (online or offline) which is one reason I have so few friends. It seems I'm not as careful as I thought I was. And what really hurts is that I thought this person really cared about me.

I learned that I have only so much of myself I am willing to give someone, but if they were my friend I guess they would understand and respect that. It is sad that so much hurt changes how much you will open up to people.

Boundaries are SOOOOO important within male and female friendships, I learned that one last year. This includes both emotional intimacy as well as physical. Guard your heart, for everything you do in life flows from it.

Hmm. I don't know how to share mine without getting too deep or longwinded. I suppose I'll put it into an analogy.

Last year, or rather the past year and a half, has been a HUGE rollercoaster. Major things happened, both good and bad things, but seemingly mainly bad. I could list them all but I don't want to be too depressing, to be honest. I'm still recovering from that rollercoaster. I'm still dizzy and motion sick from it all.

I'm trying hard to learn the good things (trusting God always, loving no matter what, etc.) about these lessons and not the wrong things (distrust, anger, bitterness, etc). :/

I'm a lump of clay, my heart is soft like play-doh, and God is continually molding me. All part of being refined to be more Christ-like. Slowly but surely.

I guess those aren't any specific examples, but like I said I don't really want to get into it. It's late and I'm emotional as it is, and typing it all out will likely cause me to start crying. :o One thing I will mention though, is something to do with pottery. God is the potter; I am the clay. I don't know how many of you have done pottery, but when you get the clay, you have to throw it against the table, work it out, and throw it some more to get all the air bubbles out, or else after you put it in the kiln it won't fire right or will end up looking sloppy. That's something I keep in mind. Sometimes it hurts to be molded. Sometimes it doesn't. But all of it is for God's glory and He loves us so much. I cannot fathom it.

And that all makes me sound super depressed and such. I'm not. I'm joyful in the Lord. It's just that this past year really, REALLY took a toll on me.

I learned that just because the description on the menu says 'Supreme Nachos' does not mean they are indeed Supreme, or even Edible.

I learned that government does not have the people's best interests at heart...only the government's interests.

I learned that Chris Farley ate paint chips as a kid.

I learned that what goes around, comes around.

I learned that it takes three licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

I learned that if you put some nugget of truth in the midst of a bunch of drivel, most people will miss it.

I learned the answer to life the universe and everything is 42.

I learned that Jullianna wears heels.

I learned that Descyple does too.

I learned that I need to be prepared for emergencies, as I am my own first line of defense.

I learned that after my morning coffee, I need to head to the bathroom.

I learned that the urge to urinate makes one nervous and edgy.

I learned that continuing to post on a forum instead of tending to one's needs isn't the smartest thing to do.

I learned that talking about urination and the relieving of one's bladder will make some of you have to go.

I learned that it is possible for a kindergartner to wee over top of a school desk.

I learned Jullianna will likely need another change of uniform.

I learned that I need to go make breakfast and pack my lunch for work today.

My parents are real people.

Interesting you mention that Arwen.... It's hard hey.

Sometimes close friendships can be very rewarding, other times they can cause so much damage. Just knowing how close is too close I guess... Or perhaps certain topics.

Trusting is a hard one Zero, :(.

I find it quite easy to trust friends... to give more, not so easy.

Writing my experiences good/bad would be too lengthy n exhausting, so i'll just summarize what i learnt from those occurrences

-it's really not wise to put all my eggs in one basket

-learned to trust God..keep trusting....and trust Him even more

-Decisions are much harder to make especially when emotions are involved. I sure won't be quick to judge someone who cant readily make up their minds.

-A smile is a gift that cost nothing but influences the life of the receiver immensely... so i smile always

-God's way is the best way.

Also if there is air present, the heat can cause it to explode in the kiln destroying nearby pieces also.

hmm...is this continuing with the analogy (because I am unsure what the meaning behind exploding and destroying other pieces lol) or just a fun fact?

I was recalling a time when this actually happened. I guess it could be used as part of the analogy, although I am not quite sure exactly what it would mean.

I'd say both. If we don't let God shape us/get out the air bubbles then when the fire comes we could end up hurting others around us. At least, that's one interpretation!

Yeah, like if we aren't letting God "get all the air pockets out" when the time comes to be fired, we explode and "damage" or cause those around us who did let God "work out the pockets of air" to stumble in their walk.

Something else to keep in mind is Romans 8:28. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[SUP] [/SUP]have been called according to his purpose."

As one of my very wise professors once paraphrased, "Not everything is good, but everything works out for good."

There are things I've experienced that I wouldn't wish on anyone, and I don't particularly care that I experienced them myself. But God has used those things to let me connect with people and share God's love with people that I otherwise wouldn't have. :)
