Every day that the sun sinks to the West, it must remind us that the day is passing away, and that the night is approaching... For the night cometh, when no man can work. - John 9:4.

What does this mean, and what does it mean to you?

Lord I pray my heart is right, please forgive me of my daily sins and wash me clean. Amen.

It is darkness and not light. We must carry Light within if we are to share it.

Jesus said,

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Jn.9:5

His work he was doing in his own flesh body came to an end, but he still works in us by his Spirit.

1 Corinthians 10

1And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2and all were immersed into Moses in the cloud, and in the sea; 3and all ate the same spiritual food, 4and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ; 5but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,

6and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these desired. 7Neither become idolaters, as certain of them, as it has been written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play”; 8neither may we commit whoredom, as certain of them committed whoredom, and there fell in one day twenty-three thousand; 9neither may we tempt the Christ, as also certain of them tempted, and perished by the serpents; 10neither murmur, as also some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer. 11And all these things happened to those persons as types, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages came, 12so that he who is thinking to stand—let him observe, lest he fall.

darkness comes to those to those who fall -- to whatever degree we fall.

it carries on -- the same to the other side (separation from God).

The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. - John 12:35

"promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he also brought into bondage.” (2Peter 2:19).

And don’t think that all of them are hypocrites. As the workers of iniquity (Mat 7:21-23),

many are sincerely cheated, saying:

“I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing”.

However they didn’t know that they are

wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked:” (Rev 3:17).

What does this mean, and what does it mean to you?
"While it is day" is a metaphor for "while I -- who am the Light of the world -- am on this earth". "The night" would be the absence of Christ literally walking about on earth. Christ ministered on earth for only about 3 1/2 years. But during that time he performed hundreds of thousands of miracles. See my thread on the miracles of Christ.

What this passage means in plain English that a day would come when the miracles of Christ on earth would cease: Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the Light of the world. (John 9:3-5)

He would return to Heaven. Therefore He worked daily to heal and cast out demons. And He even told the disciples that the blindness of this particular man was to manifest the works of God on earth through Christ.

Indeed, we are to be the light in this dark world, and to continue shine our lights, staying about His business until then.... Before the night. The laborers will know through the Holy Spirit, when "that night comes.

The light and day refer to Jesus, but also the Church

Matthew 5: 14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, (see Revelation), and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."

Once Israel's 40 years to repent had elapsed, the Church (light) left the Hill (Jerusalem) and the darkness of the judgment began.
There was no more work they could do as judgment (darkness) had fallen.

Luke 20:
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.

We are the children of Light, born of Light, and we are on the Way to return to the Light. These words have always encouraged me.

When the Holy Spirit came into me, I would have seen God, however at that moment, that instaqn, the Ligh, His Light, was so intense I could nto see in detail. All around me was changed to Light and it was and is wonderful. All glory to God, amen.

Jesus said,

Correct, that Jesus is the Light of the world. When He rose from the grave, went back to His throne, and became our Mediator... Now through Him, the Holy Spirit was granted to those who accepted the 'call'. Therefore, we are His light to shine in this dark world, to continue shinning our light... Staying about His business until ('the nigh') He said otherwise.... .'

The laborers will know through the Holy Spirit, when "that night comes.

"The harvest is plenty but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest." Luke 10:2.

Lord, may you grant us the gift/the spirit of courage and braveness in Christ, Yeshua's name. Amen.
