After seeing the "discussion" that broke out over our friend @Subhumanoidal and his username in the "Dark Attractions" thread, it got me thinking about how people perceive and react to the usernames we choose for ourselves.
To be honest, after watching that whole fiasco, what I REALLY wanted to title this thread was: "How Would People Here React If I Changed My Username to 'BigFatDoofus'?" But out of respect for this site, and knowing an outlandish title might be very off-putting to someone searching Google for a Christian forum, I am forced to keep my more ornery side under somewhat measured control (it's a full-time job, let me tell you.)
So before my inner goblin lets loose (that would be at least the 3rd time today, and it's only 9:30 in the morning,) let's talk about usernames!
* What is the origin of your username? Why did you choose it, and what does it mean to you?

I am adopted, and my papers say I was found in a cardboard box in front of a theater in Seoul, Korea. I was adopted by loving, Christian, Caucasian parents -- and because of this, I have always been in-between everything, never fully fitting into one side or the other. When I was younger, I never knew who I was and was always searching for a place to belong. I am always in-between groups, labels, cultures, and classifications.
Over the years, I believe God has taught me that my calling is to be a bridge between different types of people. "Seoulsearch" represents my lifelong search to discover who I am, and my calling to help others find who they are in Christ as well.

I have gone through the comments and I feel a little boring and lazy. Edith is my name and I never had second thoughts on the name. probably too lazy to think of a name. however I many people call me mom, mommy, mama, I accept it because it gives me a psychological majority over them.

I just remembered, Sub is technically my third name on this site.
My very first name was Ahzmort. I made up the name for a MySpace page, back when that was a thing.
It was meant to be a bit funny by being an over the top page.
I came up with the name by taking the Ahz from a character in a book, and adding mort, it sounded cool and was perfect for my MS page. Ahzmort the Goatcrusher was the full name 😂
As in "separate the sheep from the goats".
In context it made sense, out of context it makes no sense.
I had the name the first few months on the site, when I spent all my time in the chats, not the forum.
Problem was I kept getting asked if it had anything to do with Voldemort from Harry Potter, which it absolutely did not. I've never cared for HP in any capacity. Never read one single book or watched any movies.
So, I got tired of the Voldemort inquiries and decided to change it to 'Ugly'. I remember laughing so hard when I came up with it haha.

Some people join, make one or two or a few posts and then never return. Some leave after years and we may never know why, or get banned and we may never know why. Some leave and then change their minds some time later and come back under a new name. Maybe they forgot their password. If they had had their previous account deleted and become a guest, they can use the same name again, but many don't know that and they pick a new name. Others leave with the intention of coming back under a new name. This largely buries their past because others are prevented from using the system the way it was designed for searches (although there are ways around this). We have all kinds here. Sometimes I have been looking at some list connected to my account and I see all the people I have on ignore, LOL and the vast majority of them are now banned. On the old platform when you had someone on ignore, if anyone else quoted them their post would be shown to you, so that is one perk of the new platform, because their posts remain hidden even when quoted. Except, when someone becomes a guest their posts then appear also. I have seen a lot in my nine/almost ten years here, people come and go, some barely a blip on the radar. Much water under the bridge and things forgotten. And then I will randomly run across something and be reminded; sometimes it is a real hoot to see such things. At least one person regularly becomes a guest and then comes back soon after with a new name. I have lost track of how many times she has done this. At least half a dozen I would say, and there are others who do the same thing, informing us they are leaving and never coming back and then returning repeatedly. I also knew of one person who was banned at least six times and kept coming back under new names. It was a guy but he would even sign up as a woman, which gave him access to the Ladies Forum. I rarely post in there though I have let some know there could be men viewing that which they should not be. The internet is such a strange mix... and I just a little while ago saw a story where AI is again implicated in the suicide death of a teen, whom AI had targeted and was basically blackmailing. Strange times we live in. After all that, I am glad you still grace us with your lovely presence.

But for many who likely do not know my story...
Eight years ago this month - I joined this forum after wife1.0 left our marriage, family and home after 26 years and three amazing kids - youngest was still in high school.
This forum helped serve as my initial lifeline - with so many amazing people (like @seoulsearch) with open hearts, compassion, empathy along with reinforcing our essential foundation in faith and hope... for a brighter tomorrow...
- In addition to helping me while I was at my lowest... This forum also helped me to realize how good it felt to help give the same reassurance, faith and hope to others... In doing so, this forum has helped me to find my purpose(s) and callings (see below)...
My Avator is one of my Great Pyrenees named 'Spirit' ... because he was my great white hope.
Childhood and nick names over Life:
- Gordito - my mom called me Gordito when I was young bc I was a little chubby boy... She never called me 'Late for Dinner"
- 'Billy Joe Jim Bob' - my mom and sisters and family called me 'Billy Joe Jim Bob' when I was a kid...
- 'Fair Frank' - as a 1st Lt Company Executive Officer - my Commanding Officer gave me the nickname 'Fair Frank' - because I was too honest to a fault..
- 'Show-Stopper 1' - as an Major Assistant Operations Officer - my peers nick named me 'Show-Stopper 1'... - because I had a knack for identifying the weaknesses in a concept of operations plan...
- 'FightingSpirit' - my name was 'FightingSpirit' on the USA Judo Forum as a judo dad, coach and personal trainer...When my oldest son was a 2016 Olympic Judo Prospect...
- 'Pops' - my adult kids and their significant others call me 'Pops'...
If I were to be able to change my name here, hmmm maybe:
- 'The Rebuilder' - not that I am completed just yet - as it feels as if I am in a constant state of striving to 'rebuild' in pursuit of my purpose striving to be the person HE has called me to become... I've helped facilitate several Christian-based divorce (& widowed) support groups - my favorite was called 'Rebuilding.'
- 'Christian Patriot Truther' - for those who have been following my contributions in another thread in this forum ...
- 'William Wallace' - from Braveheart - as at the end of the day he pursued a cause bigger than him - and ultimately never experienced that 'happily ever after' dream for himself that he hoped for everyone ...
- 'The Advocate' - as an INFJ I am inherently wired as an advocate, counselor and coach... Maybe I missed my calling as a research analyst (old curmudgeon) for the Marine Corps... As I constantly find myself 'Advocating' for the service to have the moral fortitude to do right for the best interest of our Marines and their future force capabilities...
But for many who likely do not know my story...

you would choose if you changed your name? I think the title was something like that. He came back and
started his same old shame and blame game for why he had left and returned so many times, some under
similar names so we knew it was him, even though he had left saying he was never coming back, and other
times under completely different names deliberately chosen to deceive people here. It seems there were
untreated mental health issues involved, but it's anybody guess.

- 'The Rebuilder' - not that I am completed just yet - as it feels as if I am in a constant state of striving to 'rebuild' in pursuit of my purpose striving to be the person HE has called me to become... I've helped facilitate several Christian-based divorce (& widowed) support groups - my favorite was called 'Rebuilding.'
- 'Christian Patriot Truther' - for those who have been following my contributions in another thread in this forum ...
- 'William Wallace' - from Braveheart - as at the end of the day he pursued a cause bigger than him - and ultimately never experienced that 'happily ever after' dream for himself that he hoped for everyone ...
- 'The Advocate' - as an INFJ I am inherently wired as an advocate, counselor and coach... Maybe I missed my calling as a research analyst (old curmudgeon) for the Marine Corps... As I constantly find myself 'Advocating' for the service to have the moral fortitude to do right for the best interest of our Marines and their future force capabilities...
But for many who likely do not know my story...
Eight years ago this month - I joined this forum after wife1.0 left our marriage, family and home after 26 years and three amazing kids - youngest was still in high school.
This forum helped serve as my initial lifeline - with so many amazing people (like @seoulsearch) with open hearts, compassion, empathy along with reinforcing our essential foundation in faith and hope... for a brighter tomorrow...
- In addition to helping me while I was at my lowest... This forum also helped me to realize how good it felt to help give the same reassurance, faith and hope to others... In doing so, this forum has helped me to find my purpose(s) and callings (see below)...
My Avator is one of my Great Pyrenees named 'Spirit' ... because he was my great white hope.
Childhood and nick names over Life:
- Gordito - my mom called me Gordito when I was young bc I was a little chubby boy... She never called me 'Late for Dinner"
- 'Billy Joe Jim Bob' - my mom and sisters and family called me 'Billy Joe Jim Bob' when I was a kid...
- 'Fair Frank' - as a 1st Lt Company Executive Officer - my Commanding Officer gave me the nickname 'Fair Frank' - because I was too honest to a fault..

I don't know why time keeps surprising me like that. Time passing is literally the single most regular, dependable, predictable factor in my existence. But it still catches me off guard... All the time.
