...with apologies to Liamson for bouncing off of his post.
There are many different ways to look at this. Some people will end up "marketing" not what they are, but what they think they are. Some people will list many subjective traits, but if the observer doesn't agree with the speaker's assessment, then their claims are, in that instance, null. Some people will go overboard and outright vaunt themselves. And some people won't do as good of a job not sounding like a personals ad as they think they do. I'm not suggesting that everybody would be better off stating facts without a hint of personal expression, but I do think that if it is your goal to market your personal brand, it will come through in your posts.
Last point: the following probably doesn't apply to many people, nor am I suggesting that it should. But if someone isn't even remotely interested in a relationship, why would they take the time to talk about themselves so that other people can know them better? I am not, nor have I ever been, looking for a relationship. I also do not particularly like to type.
I could go on and on about what makes me different, but at the end of the day, what good would it do anyone? If I have an experience to share that I think might help someone, I share it. Otherwise, it's just a waste of server space.
Liamson might think that I'm defensive, or that I took his post personally. That is not the case. I am simply sharing a different viewpoint, which required its own thread in order to make sure that the original thread didn't get derailed.
I think at the end of the day, people should take some interest in marketing their personal brand. Really finding a way to let people know who they are and what they are about, without coming across as a personals advertisement, that is something that interesting people do very well.
Its okay to stand out. It doesn't mean you are alone, it means that you are unique. Because at the end of the day, a person doesn't want to fall for just A man, or A woman, they want You to be special.
