So, my son is a math geek. In the car he starts talking about how numbers are abstract. If I represent one and him one, it is only an abstract comparison. We could be compared by weight or height or age and the comparison would not remain one and one. Then we got thinking about how numbers are also very objective. One always means one, one-plus-one always means two. Proper names are also abstract and objective. I am David. That is objectively true but tells you nothing about me. So, if I say that I have three kawalus, I give you very little usable information. Technical descriptions are also abstract and objective. So if I tell you that I have Leiten Factor 5 genetic disorder, you probably have no idea what I mean. We need to be able to relate objective information with subjective experience. so if I say that I have a mouth full of H-two-O, because you know that is water, you immediately relate it to your subjective experience with drinking water. Now we know, objectively many things about God. We know that He is Yahweh, Adonai, Elohim, Theos, Kurios, etc. We know that He is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutable. But then Jesus came. And the disciples saw him. And it was an "aha" moment. God-in-flesh became the revelation of God, the Word. "What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what webeheld and our hands handles, concerning the Word of Life--and the life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us--what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also that you also may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ."
Now Jesus says, "I will be with you always, even to the end of the age." A promise that everyone who puts their faith in Him can experience Him. This is an experience which, from I John 1:1-3, I believe is secured by faith and by the word of testimony--specifically the testimony of the word of God.
What do you think.
