It's quite funny how the whole Pink thing has evolved. Nowadays there is 'Pink Shirt Day' to stop bullies. Though people still bully even while wearing pink.

Except, Abraham didn't sit there debating to sacrifice one son or the other.
First of all, Ishmael had already been banished and was gone, so the only son available to Abraham was Isaac.
Second, God TOLD Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, so the only choosing Abraham had was choosing to do as God told him.

It is VERY possible to ALWAYS wear pink on Wednesdays...
And red on Mondays
Yellow on Tuesdays
Green on Thursdays
Orange on Fridays
Purple on Saturdays
And white on Sundays
(this was not mine -no, mine had to have the same dress EVERDAY but I've those who have been through this)

Sarah was Hebrew, she wasn't Christian because she lived in OT before Jesus was here in the flesh, so she couldn't have followed Christ. Just because Hebrews/Jews/Israelites were the chosen people doesn't mean they were perfect and Christ-like.

Sarah had some ugly behaviour, trying to manipulate Abraham, and take shortcuts with God. She also laughed when God told her she was going to have a baby in her old age, as if God couldn't make a miracle.

She was cruel to Hagar and made her take a position that wasn't her own choice. After she realised her mistake, she didn't really repent she tried to fix it herself. Thus it took even LONGER to have the promised child.

I know the theme of the thread is Mean Girls, but Abraham was pretty shady himself (not that this justifies Sarah in any way.) I just believe in pointing out the flaws of both genders when the subject is talked about.

Knowing how beautiful Sarah was, Abraham insisted that she tell everyone she was his sister (though she was his half-sister,) but it was the motivation that was wrong. Abraham knew that the men in the land would notice, Sarah and likely kill him because of it.

So he let the most powerful men in the country carry Sarah off like she was a piece of merchandise -- as women were treated in those times -- not caring how they would abuse her, as long as he saved his own skin.

And he did this not once, but twice. But God stepped in and saved Sarah -- when it was Abraham who put her in that situation. I often wonder what their marriage was like after that, or if Sarah just accepted that this was the way things were.

When I was a young and in Lutheran school, I started doing the most dangerous thing they say you can do -- I started reading the Bible for myself -- and realized how much they sanitize all the major Biblical stories that are told in church.

I was just a kid, and I was horrified by this part of Sarah and Abraham's story.

I remember telling God, "Is this what I should expect in a Christian man, Lord? Someone who is going to hand me over to whoever wants to use me, as long as he can save himself?"

Yes, we are all sinners.

But I always wondered why this particular downfall in Abraham's morality is never talked about, or just glossed over.

And, following his father's example, Isaac later did this to Rebekah as well.

Everyone was a mess all by themselves. Abraham pimped Sarah out, and Sarah pimped Hagar out. And then, when Hagar entertained the idea that Abraham might've favored her over Sarah, he summarily told Sarah, after she nagged at him by blaming him for impregnating her in the first place, that Hagar was nothing to him and she could do what she wanted with her.... just like he did.

In both cases (is it even in all cases?), though, God stepped in to show that they were something to in His sight.

If Hagar takes after the nature of women in general, when they're young, they tend to be idealistic toward romance. There is a noted rabbi that asserts girls are born, innocently, wanting to get married, but as they grow 'wiser,' they become jaded and 'looser' in their ideals as they adjust to repeated encountering disappointed 'love' in their search for the 'love' of a man. I suppose that Sarah would have 'offered' Abram "the most acceptable" specimen of surrogate, so Hagar was likely a virgin, and easily prone to 'fall in love.' Silly girl.

I mean, I've seen some complete , um, jerks around here, and I think @Magenta is FAR from 'taking their side'.

She starts a mean girls thread and then acts like a mean girl Actually her behavior goes beyond being mean. Bearing false witness, rooted in the Ninth Commandment, means lying or misrepresenting the truth to harm another person, covering actions like slander, perjury, gossip, and reputation destruction. It is far more than simply being "mean." Why she deliberately chooses to repeatedly misrepresent reality, spreading malicious rumors (gossip), and twisting facts, I do not know.

The marital relationships in Genesis did horrify me a little and how Sarah was supposed to call Abraham her Lord even though he was acting pretty selfishly.

He threw her under the bus!

I also think the rivalry between sisters Rachel and Leah was terrible - who could have the most babies? And Jacob was a bit shady too. Leah had the most but was not loved, Rachel couldn't have any and had to resort to fertility drugs AND she died in childbirth, it literally killed her. That was so sad.

Ishmael was rejected, I felt for him because he didn't end up inheriting any of the blessings that God had promised came from Abraham's loins. I think maybe God was not only testing Abraham's obedience, but finding out if Abraham truly loved his own son. its kind of a catch-22 whatever way you think about it.

Abraham did have other children with Keturah after Sarah died. He had six more sons! So Isaac was not the only one anymore. But he was treated as the firstborn, when technically he wasn't.

I don't think Hagar loved Abraham.
She was Sarah's maid. But she could have had silly notions that she was like his wife now and first in his affections...NOT. The deed would have been simply wham bam thank you mam. No love involved. A transaction.

Same with Leah and Jacob. Leah had many children, but Jacob did not, would not love her. So they had sex, the thing you need to do to have children, but he didn't love her and wasn't affectionate toward her.

Going back to Mean Girls...Regina did not love Aaron Samuels. She used him, pretty much. It was more like, she wanted to possess him, and would not let anyone else have him. Even though she 'cheated' on him with Shane.

I've never seen the movie, but the principle from the movie stayed at the inn I worked at, and all the younger girls were like, "Wow, the principle from Mean Girls is here!" and when I asked, "Who's that?" and then looked him up, I remembered him as "The Ladie's Man."

Oh what's whis name..he was in SNL with Tina Fey, so was Amy Poehler who played the 'cool mom'.And Cady's mom was Ana G. Like all the cast of SNL were in it. I'd never seen SNL because it didn't show in my country but now I know what it is...I saw clips on it from Youtube and it's hilarious. All the famous actors/perfomers are on it.

Love that he had Carpal tunnel syndrome hahaa..in the musical version he and teacher Mrs Norbury (Tina Fey) were together, but I kind of like the original where they weren't and just flirting.

And the high school was called North Shore ...we have a North Shore in Auckland but it's a whole suburb/entire city in itself. Very wealthy area. You wouldn't have mansions like Regina's though, that is off the scale wealthy...

Does anyone wear White on Sunday? We do have White Sundays. Mostly pacific Island churches do this. But it's only once a year when everyone has to wear white from head to toe.

It would be very interesting if a movie about church was based on Mean Girls cliques etc.
Like the new convert would come to church, and have no idea where to sit, and the married couples area are like 'You can't sit with us'!
Unlike Cady who goes and sits in the toilet eating her lunch (ew!) the new convert just sits at the back ...
