MaxWel, I didn't realize that your the copyright police on here. Bart Ehrman is a public figure who has been popularizing his conspiracy theories against the New Testament Text. I openly challenged him on his public blog, and exposed his theories for what they really are. If he was naïve to think I wasn't going to put it animation, knowing full well that I have already taken his comments and used them in my videos that I posted on his blog making fun of his theories, I'm sure he is not too worried about the videos. My question Maxwel, is why are you so concerned? Plus I don't think you understand the fair use law and how parody works - are you a copyright lawyer? - because my cousin actually is - this wasn't his posting, but my actual conversation with Dr Ehrman...

You sought attention, and thereby invited opinions and criticism; you should be happy to get what you wanted... so few people do.

You are the one who intentionally posted a link to your own video, actively seeking attention, and seeking views for your video, and this kind of action should reasonably be expected to be answered with a wide range of critiques and opinions.

You wanted views and attention; now you're getting it.

You should be happy.

You didn't post your link in the dark; you posted it on a very busy and public forum, where we debate, critique, and share our opinions.

So, what a surprise, you invited critiques and opinions, and now you're getting critiques and opinions.

Again, you should be happy.

It would seem silly to invite critiques and opinions, and then act upset when you get them.
You wanted attention for your video, and you're getting it.
You should be happy.
In fact, you should thank me for taking the time to view your video.

My particular critique - it's all about ethics and prudence:

As this is a place where we share opinions, and you actively posted here to get views and opinions, I am sharing my opinions... a very normal and expected thing here.

I am sharing my particular opinion that although you can certainly do whatever you like, I am recommending that OTHER CHRISTIANS do not follow this example for creation and publication of derivative works.

Why?

1. A Christian should be above reproach, and do his very best to keep all things legal and above-board at all times... and although you could have EASILY just ASKED Bart Ehrman for permission to use HIS CONTENT, you never bothered to do so, and you just TOOK his content.

Even if you claim "fair use" as a LEGAL PROTECTION, that does nothing to alleviate the ETHICAL ISSUE that you simply TOOK someone else's content without permission, KNOWINGLY, and INTENTIONALLY, when you could have, and should have, sought that permission.

2. Bart Ehrman certainly does OWN the content on his OWN WEBSITES, and the manner in which he chooses to view and enforce this will be detailed in his terms of use.

There is no question that Bart Ehrman, not Jonathon Sheffield, owns the content on the Bart Ehrman sites... with any particulars and exceptions governed by terms of use.

3. When you contend that "I'm sure Ehrman knew what I was doing", that is just a ridiculous attempt at justification, when all you had to do was ask him for official permission.

A. You had no way to know exactly what was in Ehrman's head regarding your use of his content, unless he opened his mouth, and very specifically told you.
B. Unless you read minds, you have no way to know you had permission unless he specifically gave you permission.
C. This is just your justification for not getting proper permission.

This is like saying, "i borrowed my neighbor's car yesterday, and he didn't say anything, so I must have permission."
- No
- Maybe your neighbor isn't aware you took his car
- Maybe your neighbor is aware, but he's being a nice guy, and just hoping you won't do it again.
- We could think of dozens of similar reasons.

4. And so what about "Fair Use"... can't you just take other people's content and use it for your own purposes, as long as you claim it's parody or education?
No.
It isn't that simple.

A. Fair Use is fairly vague and nebulous, and it's contested in court continually.
B. People LOSE Fair Use lawsuits all the time.
C. If sued, you end up in a long battle over semantics, the exact terms and definitions regarding fair use, and what they "might" mean, and what precisely you did and did not do in your derivative work, and how you used it... it's not at all a simple or clear cut issue.
D. When creating derivative works, most people with any sense either acquire legal permission in writing to use other people's content, or they use other people's content in VERY SMALL AMOUNTS.... you did neither.

Conclusion:

1. You posted your video here seeking attention, and thus, inherently, inviting critiques and opinions.

2. All I did was acquiesce to your wishes, and view the content, and give my opinions.
I gave my opinion that it would be wise, and prudent, for other Christians to NOT follow your example of content creation and publication, in that they should seek legal permission before using another person's content.

3. Being a bit cautious and prudent in this matter both protects a person legally, and protects a person ethically, as they can't be accused of doing anything unethical which might ruin their Christian testimony. Therefore, I can only caution any readers to be very cautious, and circumspect, in their content creation.

One more thing:

There are many many things wrong with this video presentation, some are fairly egregious, and my post above was just regarding a very small issue.

There are much bigger issues at stake.
The Christians here need to realize that when you go after a world-renowned scholar in an utterly absurd, ridiculing, and condescending way, it just makes Christians look stupid, arrogant and obnoxious. This isn't going to get anyone to listen. And this isn't how scholarly debate is done. In fact, this isn't how we should talk to, or characterize, anyone.

If you have a great message, and you wrap it in a package of thorns just because you think that's funny... well, that isn't going to impress the guy who picks up the package.

Since the OP posted here to get attention for his video, and having a lengthy debate is just going to give him more attention, I'm going to disengage from this thread.

Bart Ehrman is simply an apostate. Why waste time on him? He knew the truth and departed from it. From such turn away.

he wouldn't have been the first that's for sure, I don't know much about him honestly this is first time I've heard of him.

when ever I hear scholar I view it in the worth of wooden nickel, just purely my opinion brother.

Calvin, a constructive bit of criticism:

Break your thoughts into smaller paragraphs. It'll make them easier to digest in this venue.

I think it will be good if you:

1. present your hypothesis in simple clear way

2. present Dr Ehrman's hypothesis in simple clear way

3. present your main points against Dr Erhman's hypothesis

4. show evidence for your main points against Dr Ehrman's hypothesis

5. summarize what is shown in the video presentation.

For us here in CC, but for the sake of clarity, I would also add it to the beginning of the video.

-----

Not everyone has a time to go through 1 hour of video full of animations. While skimming through it, I saw manytimes something like "where is your evidence for xyz, Dr. Ehrman", but thats probably something he would present in his videos, not in your animation... So it would take much time to study properly.

https://youtu.be/gxf_EhjZd5Y After several months of production I have finally launched a recreation of the first part of a three part series of my Defacto Debate with Dr Ehrman on the reliability of Text of the New Testament that commenced on the Bart Ehrman Blog during the period of July 30th - October 29th 2017. For the last year and a half I have created a new genre in apologetics by putting them to animation. I went to Dr Ehrman home turf and posted an open challeng to Dr Ehrmans assertions on his members forum including the my latest production again him and his theories. Dr Ehrman personally emailed me to move my challenge over to his public blog to deal with my challenge there. Since Dr Ehrman has popularized his postmodern narrative on the New Testament Scriptures, I thought my opening scene to introduce the debate should help bring Dr Ehrman out of the Matrix world that he has been living in. In Dr Ehrman's classic works, he has asserted two major conspiracy theories attacking The Received Texts of the Apostolic Churches, which promotes an evolutionary view of the New Testament. Spoiler Alert: He lost badly
Thanks that was interesting.
IN reference to Dr. Ehrman. We open ourselves up to the wrong spirit when we start making a monetary living off the Gospel.

I think what might have happened is when I copied the writeup from a facebook post that I sent to sam harris on his facebook page just earlier, that's what may have included the extension.

what you do, is use the 'insert video'

click on the little icon for movies above (2nd from left) after copying the url of the vid you want to share
