The best vacation I have ever taken, and one I have repeated many times, is when I went to a motel room, locked the door and stayed in there for 8 days. I brought all the food I needed, as well as everything else I thought I might need - nail clippers in case I got a hangnail, my own towel, a couple extra rolls of toilet paper, backup laptop in case my primary went down - I even brought a (clean, unused, new) plunger, just in case.
I loved it and I I'm looking forward to my next one about the last week of may.

I was thinking about this and what stood out in my memory wasn't just the trips, but the interactions I had with the people I was with while on them: a sibling talking about "cantaloupe" when what they meant to say was "antelope" (but we'd all been awake for nearly 24 hours, so none of us was talking straight!), a friend who literally guarded their kitchen to keep me from doing the dishes (they said I was a guest and shouldn't be doing such work, lol,) and the time when my Mom and I decided to "go for a walk" to "see what was around" our hotel.
By the time my Dad called and said they were ready for lunch, Mom and I discovered we had walked an hour away -- but there was just so much to see!!
The rest of the gang wasn't so happy at having to wait for us while we walked the hour back.
And I don't think they let us wander by ourselves again after that!
alright, i will. although not my favorite place, but close, we just came back from st. thomas for a 16 day vacation. my 6th time there. hawaii is my all time favorite vacation destination. highlights in st. thomas are always, megan's beach, lindquist beach, restaurant's: greenhouse restaurant ( 1st restaurant i ever dined in st. thomas ), island view steakhouse, oceana, old stone farmhouse & cuvee. attractions: skyride, 99 steps, pirate's treasure museum, tropical botanical gardens & coral world ocean. shopping: palm passage, a h rise mall. by course, there's more.Good Idea, but why you didn't start with your experiences?
They say that 4 years old is too young to go to disney, because you won't remember it. But I do remember the monorail going through the ceiling of the restaurant. And I do remember the water worms.
I don't remember having fun there, but they did not tell stories about how I cried all the time so I guess I enjoyed it. But I do remember the spectacle.

hmm have to think about that. I haven't been away too much in the past year, but when I did manage to get away, with my mum and sis, it was to a retreat in the forest ranges. It was a free vacay and we went for walks in the forest and bird spotted.
The holiday home was a recent build and it was quite flash.
My sis cooked so I didn't really have to do anything, I read a few books. We all had a double bed to ourselves. I had a bath, and I just remember the huge stove and fancy appliances and furnishings too, like a five star hotel.
And the deer! The retreat also had a deer farm at the back, and the owner let us feed the deer, we rode in his buggy, and he told us how he farmed them for their antlers.

Tips for fellow travellers...well, the last vacay I mentioned was local like it was only 20 minutes away by car, and it was free because I'd applied for this charity that offered them to terminally ill patients, as my mum was, and their carers.
We even had a supermarket voucher for $100 so could buy food and groceries for our stay, which had a fully equipped kitchen. We stayed 3-4 days I recall.
Because the retreat was in the forest, there wasn't always cell reception, but it was meant to be a peaceful, quiet retreat.
Nothing really went wrong, although I do recommend if you going to buy a watermelon, that you wrap it up carefully in a blanket and put in a sturdy box, and not have it roll around in your car boot/trunk while driving. lol

Wow I once had a penpal whom I've lost touch with now but she lived in West Virginia and she wrote about the blue smoky mountains. She was a poet and would get inspired by nature.
The Lord always gives blessings when I visited the mountains. I hope He helps me get back there again.

that reminds me when in the 90's, attending a certain church, so many times when i needed to hear a lesson about what i was going thru, the pastor was teaching on it! amazing!

I've been there. Nobody wants to eat a watermelon that has been impaled by a rusty jack handle. Or that's what happened to my watermelon at least.
We called it water worms because it looked like big wet worms shooting from one hole to another. I don't know what Disney officially calls it. I would bet they don't call it water worms though.
It's the little jet fountains that shoot solid streams of water across the path, and they shoot it into holes on the other side of the path where other Jets are. So it looks like big snakes made of water jumping across the path.
Wow.

I say Disney should have made this water thingy be more prominent.

neat. no Atlantis sub cruise anymore. if you go, you'll wonder why you didn't go sooner. i'll suggest staying at the ritz-carlton on great bay, southeast area.Wow.
