Brian Houston Responds to Criticism Over Hillsong Youth Pastor Dressing as 'Naked Cowboy' at NYC Church Event

There is a similar thread in BDF, but I wanted to make one with a different title under the news forum. Might I add that this happened at the Colour Women's Conference last month. It is rather a sad thing to talk about, but it's a cruel fact.

True. And, sigh, I think it's wise for them to take responsibility rather than making light of the situation (and giving excuses). Of course, humans make mistake. Christians will forgive them. But the world? Idk.

a really bad decision and it won't happen again and it was not authorized is about all Brian could say

I get that it's showing the "appearance of evil" and God supposedly doesn't have a sense of humor (granted it may not have been the time or place to make such an "edgy" joke), but come on. Anyone outraged by this must be competing with the "naked cowboy" on who can be more immature. He did something stupid... We have a Republican nominee who has done exponentially worse under the flag of Christianity yet most "conservatives" will be voting for him anyway. lol

By the way, I don't like their music whatsoever... I would love to jump on the condemnation bandwagon against them, but not over this.

That's because most "conservatives" are smart enough to not vote for her. No need to sell that point when everyone already bought in. At the very least, Clinton doesn't make it a personal mission to wave her Christian flag around as she lies through her teeth.

Remember when Trump said he is being audited for 13 years or however long because he's a "strong Christian"? And you say "what a joke"... lol Anyways, I'd rather not derail this thread about attacking/defending strong Christian Trump. I was making a point that what this guy did was dumb but it is being blown way out of proportion in comparison to "other Christians" who are seeking a much higher platform of power and influence than this mediocre group.

Fair point, but if you feel so strongly about it you should start a thread rather than interjecting Trump on this one. I understand you just joined and I welcome you, but you have to understand there have been numerous, and I mean numerous anti-Trump threads, and seeing him interjected yet again into a thread that has nothing to do with him is tiring. the thing is though, that this church does not need to increase members, money or participation

Do you know anything about Hillsong? or Hillsong United?

what really happened, is that someone opened a door because of their own state of mind...the wife of Brian Houston, founder of the Hillsong church (Australia), was there and she was at the rehersal...and NO ONE brought out the fake naked cowboy...they saved that for a surprise at the actual event

there are no easy answers here

Hillsong has a worldwide effect....more than you know...and this was not a good idea or a nice surprise

I have been involved in ministry for years...it's so easy to put blame when things seem to go wrong...I'm not saying you are blaming, but there are 2 sides to this

right now I am not actively involved in a church...because of an event in my life that was so bad I just stepped down...I'm not talking about sin...but I believe I will most likely become involved again in the not so distant future...my heart and my being long for Christians to get real with God and lay down sin and stop messing with the world

I'm not an evangelist or sin preacher or whatever...I am and have been a worship leader and sometime encourager...using mostly scripture in my music and I totally get what happened here...I've seen it on a smaller scale

We are dealing with personalities and one can only pray folks are honest and who they say they are

I like hillsongs music. Have played a ton of it for worship. Other than that I only know that they are a very impactful church. Having known youth pastors very well... as well as the parents who complain about said youth pastors decisions, I'm pretty aware of the kinds of things youth pastors do that raise the ire of parents and have seen a lot of it first hand.
