What Bessent put on the table at Macron’s conference:

— Shutter Iran-linked bank branches in partner jurisdictions.
— 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐫𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 in the Middle East and Asia.
— Trump-doctrine reaffirmed: 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲.
The diplomatic frame is polite, but the message under it is hard: the US has been the only major power consistently enforcing Iran sanctions. Every European, Asian, and Gulf bank that quietly clears Iranian shell-company money is undermining the policy.
Bessent at Paris is the gentle version. The Trump version of “no money for terror” includes secondary sanctions on partner banks that don’t comply.
