Venezuela’s National Assembly has voted to repeal the law that ratified the Rome Statute, clearing the way for the country to fully withdraw from the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 — the same body Secretary of State 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐨 has spent months accusing of waging lawfare against American sovereignty.
The ICC opened a formal war-crimes investigation into Venezuela’s government back in 2021 and later shut down its Caracas office altogether, citing zero cooperation from Caracas. Now Venezuela is leaving the court’s jurisdiction entirely, notifying international bodies it’s not coming back.
