Riverhead forest in NZ?
They have redwoods I believe they might be 'off grid' NZ is often not on the maps of any of the world maps you see.
Redwood Forest in Rotorua but its not coastal - a bit inland and they have a tree walk that lights up in the evening so your hopes of getting lost there will be dashed
It seems Riverhead doesn't have any redwoods. I must have got mixed up with Redwoods golf course in Swanson.
It USED to be off grid or as we call it 'in the wops'
But then the train got there and roads and now it's just more of a suburb in Auckland. Has a nice cafe, schools, etc.

Lehman's has been around for years. Their 1000+ inventory is great for folks who live off grid .
We have Farmers, but it's not actually selling any farm things. It's a department store you get everything else from. Has been around for ever since I can remember, maybe over 100 years.Nope. I'm one of them, Surprise me's!

Probably more than 10,000 items in there inventory I mean they are BIG. Most malls have them and they can be two floors with an escalator in-between selling clothes, homewares, toys, perfumes, manchester...
I was thinking the other day hmm maybe I could get a job in Farmers. Not be an actual farmer. Also their checkouts are dotted throughout the store they are not cattle-class ones you get at the Warehouse or Kmart where you have to queue up or do it yourself. So it wouldn't be too stressful.
And their goods are QUALITY. I mean I bought a Queen sleepyhead bed from them and they delivered.
We have a farm store here too. Every spring they have baby chickens and ducks. Soooo cute.
Unfortunately,I have Coons,skunks and Opossums.But I can snuggle in store,so there is that.

So...what happened to your chainsaw...couldn't your wife and four kids help you?
Was it their dream as well, or just yours..?
I can't speak for my wife and kids. Little kids don't get a vote, anyway. I kept one of my chainsaws when I moved, a Husqvarna 455 Rancher. My wife is one of those rare persons who doesn't lend a hand with anything, except in her case, the laundry. Everything else fell on my shoulders and still does. I've only met a few parasites like that in my life, I don't think there are too many.
oh, maybe she felt like a fish out of water and didn't know how or wasn't raised to live a life in the forest.

Laundry can be a huge task esp with 4 children. I kind of assume they would have worn cloth nappies/diapers. You can't just throwaway plastic in the forest. There is probably no rubbish collection/recycling.
The actual farm stores here are not so, farmers go to the market if they want to sell stuff themselves rather than to export to other countries or the supermarkets.
The Farmers Market. Usually once a week on a Saturday/Sunday morning. If it's on Sunday, too bad for churchgoers, unless go really early, to get the freshest produce at the stalls.
I don't think I'd make a good farmers wife, but depends on what kind of farm it was.
And maybe what my husband is like. Of course, no farmer in his right mind would want to marry me if I don't know how to chop wood or handle a tractor.
But we do have machines to milk cows, and you can get a shearing gang in to shear sheep.

We have those same markets operating on weekends here. Outdoor stalls and a huge barn with indoor shops.
Well its been that way since the dawn of ---farming
Its only recent times that we've had supermarkets and fresh produce flown or shipped all around the world

We had to truck our trash to a collection site that was about 6 miles away, just outside of town. That worked out pretty well for us.
In the State of Delaware there's a place known as Ironhill.
Delaware is pretty much flat,so many locals think at least there's a big hill in the northern part of the State.
When really, what they may not know is,that hill is actually a giant garage dump.
