"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. ~ Matthew 10:34

Though the ultimate end of the gospel is peace with God (Joh_14:27; Rom_8:6), its immediate result is frequently conflict. Conversion to Christ can result in strained family relationships (Mat_10:35-36), persecution, and even martyrdom. Following Christ presupposes a willingness to endure such hardships (Mat_10:32-33, Mat_10:37-39). Though He is called "Prince of Peace" (Isa_9:6), Christ will have no one deluded into thinking that He calls believers to a life free from conflict.

I'm sure that some of the pacifists on this site will hold a contrary point of view.

Jesus is not a pacifist!

The right thing at the right time...

like the old gospel-song says, You've got to walk that lonesome-valley by yourself, because
The One who is with us, we cannot see...

being 'separate' causes all kinds of 'conflict' in this world, right down to family, friends, and
what is accepted in our pervading culture...it can get quite lonesome, sometimes...

Actually the scriptures do not say that "Jesus whipped or beat the crap out" of the money changers. It says He cast then or drove them out of the temple area.

We are assuming that He actually hit them.

Matthew 21:12 (KJV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

Here is an example of the same Greek word being used as cast out in Matt. 21:12.

Matthew 8:16 (KJV)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:

I believe that Jesus cast out or drove out the money changers with His words and the cracking of the whip - He did the animals as well as the money changers.

Here is a video showing how this was probably done.

This is an example of how religious traditions get started and we think they are actually real and true.

Well....the fact that he made a whip and in ZEAL drove them out does seem to indicate a certain level of heat and fervor in the very minimum......along the same lines of the anger that MOSES set forth when he came off the mountain and broke the stone tablets.....or Paul saying that he was not gonna "spare' when he came the next time.......... ;)

Yes....the Lord has a "zeal" for His house. We now are God's house - His dwelling. He has a zeal for us too in like passion! It is a comforting thing to know and to rest in.

I noticed that Jesus did not drive out the "temple itself" ....selah

PS. 11:4.
The LORD is in His Holy temple, The LORD'S throne is in heaven: His eyes behold, His eyelids try,
the children of men.

29:9.
The Voice of The LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests:
and in His temple doth every one speak of glory.

65:4.
Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest, and causest to approach, that he may dwell in Thy courts:
we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy House, of Thy Holy Temple.

MATT. 12: 6.
(((But I say unto you, That in this place is One greater than the Temple.)))

14:58.
We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days
I will build another made without hands.

15:38.
And the veil of the Temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

LUKE 21:5.
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, He said,...

1COR. 3:16.
Know ye not that ye are the Temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

6:19.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

9:13.
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple?
and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

11COR. 6:16.
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of The Living God;
as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

REV. 3:12.
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out:
and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, New Jerusalem,
which cometh down out of heaven from My God: and I will write upon him My New Name.

16:1.
And I heard a Great Voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways,
and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

16:17
And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came A Great Voice out of the temple
of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

21:22.
And I saw no temple therein: for The Lord God Almighty and The Lamb are the Temple of it.

The flaming sword of truth is more powerful than the swords made of copper, bronze, or blooms of steel.

Because we live in America we don' t get Scriptures like this------Christians should be taught this when coming into the Kingdom ( boot camp)...

Maybe some people do have a problem with the scripture or maybe what some have is a problem with is the "application" of that scripture that some give out as "the truth" and if you don't view it the way I do - then you are changing the word of God.

There can be a vast difference between these two thoughts.
