Why not just ask God to forgive you of all your sins? That'll cover all of them up to the point you prayed that prayer.
That's a really tired old argument that the false teachers use claiming we have to have a spreadsheet that itemizes each sin we have committed since getting born again and we are required to use 1 John 1:9 for each and every sin. That's not true.
That depends on the person. How many times a day are they turning away from the Lord to go do sin stuff?
Anytime we sow to the flesh we reap corruption. God is not mocked. We reap what we sow.
The Lord wants us to come to Him forsaking and confessing our sin so He can cleanse us.
He cannot just cleanse us automatically since He created man in His Image where we reap what we sow just like He does.
We are responsible for our actions and God is the One that made it that way.
It was but only for those that humble themselves before Him turning away from the power of the devil unto the power of the Lord.
Salvation can only be found in Christ, not outside of Christ. Why not just abide in Christ and refuse to sin?
OK, back to that again. Can I go head then and live in sin since God has forgiven me of all sin
Can I ignore the rest of scripture an d stand on this one passage and go ahead and live in sin?
It sounds like your answer must be yes if you really believe what you are saying.
There's a lot of people that believe they can live in sin and still be saved and still go to Heaven.
This is why so many Christians went back to walking after the flesh after being saved.
All the fancy preachers tell them it's not possible to lose their salvation so they think they have "fire insurance" so they are all good to go back to living in sin and otherwise ignoring the Lord having no relationship with him. Entire churches are built upon this which is why the are social clubs and not New Testament churches.
Notice the IF part in
1 John 1:9
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we don't, He won't. Unless someone wants to claim the Lord lied by putting
1 John 1:9 in His Word?
Remember to mention them??? If we sin we should be convicted immediately by the Holy Spirit Who is alerting us we just sinned and need to turn away from what we just did and confess it immediately so we can be back in right standing with the Lord.
Only those who are reprobate and have become sin friendly would not hear the conviction of the Holy Spirit if they sin.
Hebrews 3:13 warns that we can be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. and James 1:15 tells us that desire, when it conceives, gives birth to sin, which ultimately leads to death which is separation from the Lord.
Romans 6:16 - Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Read mark 4:13-20 where Jesus says when sin enters in it chokes the Word out of a person and they become unfruitful. This is what happens when a person turns away from the Lord to do sin, they become spiritually dead.
A born again person who has had the Word of God choked out of them and are now in a worse condition than they were before they got born again!
2 Peter 2:20 (Companion Scripture - Matthew 12:43-45)
For if after they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome,
the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
Matthew 12:43-45 (Companion Scripture - 2 Peter 2:20)
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there:
and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
