Okay, so the other night I was in the main chat room, and two different guys (both Americans, by the way) asked me what I consider to be off-limit questions: the first one asked me how much money I make, and the second asked me how much I weigh. Then they both were very surprised when I said that wasn't really any of their business. So just out of curiosity, anyone else encounter this?! Anyone have any other off-limit questions/subjects that other people don't always understand?

Those were certainly very rude and inappropriate questions. Next time be sure to report it to a moderator. There is always a moderator in the Lounge room. They are the ones with their names in red. God bless.

For me it depends on how long I have known the person, the more we talk the less things there are that I am unprepared to discuss.
But for a first conversation with someone of the opposite gender I think asking about salary and body type/weight is highly inapproriate.....and self-defeating because if you drive someone away you'll never find out what might have been.

It is one of the difficulties with online chatting with strangers, even people from the same country with the same fundamental values can come from very different walks of life where certain things that are considered inapproproite really aren't to another person.

I think it's good to always give someone the benefit of the doubt and a little grace, because this is the kind of thing that we can't be certain of and we must all make allowance for differing cultural attitudes.

I would only report such things to the moderator if it continues or gets worse......like if you've said it's not their business and rather than accpeting it and moving on they continue to push you to answer or critiscize you for opting not too etc.....

Poor Liz :( That was pretty rude of him.

Well i think those are @ questions you definetly dont ask someone you are just getting to know. Thats the kind of question a good friend or family member would ask, your not wrong for feeling the way you do :)

If someone says something dirty to you, copy it and paste it to a moderator. If there's no mod in the chatroom, copy and paste it to one of them in a PM. The mods are RoboOp, 1_stillwaters, Oncefallen, Billythekid, AlaynaJ,snowangel, and irraasup (whose name I may have misspelled). There may be others, too, and like Zero said, their names have a red figure beside them in the chat room. The 3 female moderator's names are on the right side of the Home Page beside the women's forum. I'm not sure if the salary or weight questions would be considered bad enough to report though; I doubt they would be. However, if "highdrive husband" is what I'm suspecting it is, it is definitely worth reporting. I just don't want to check and be grossed out. Judging from what Zero said, though, sounds like the guy was being a pervert. Yuck!

Screencap the persons pm if you're wanting to make a case of anything.

I dont like to be asked how much i weigh...mostly because its embarassing to say im roughly the size of a school bus..with all the kids in it..

Although asking someone how much they earn or how much they weigh is not against the rules (depending on context) it is definitely weird to be asking a stranger. In the Chat vulgarity, profanity, etc should be reported to a moderator. However just borderline weird stuff should inspire someone to use the "ignore" button in the private chat window.

I would also just ignore the PM if they asked me those questions. And maybe I've been out of the country too long..but I have no idea what a highdrive husband is. Perhaps in this case ignorance is bliss!

Highdrive / lowdrive seems to refer to libido.....definitely not an appropriate topic for PM. It should have been reported.

The thing I keep running into lately is guys asking me about how many kids I want, and when I say I don't know if I even want to have kids at all, they jump down my throat and start lecturing me about how God wants everyone to have children and I'm pretty much sinning if I don't have kids of my own. They don't see anything wrong with that because they say they're "just speaking biblically," and I guess if that's how they interpret scripture, then fine...but it just seems inappropriate to me to be lecturing a total stranger online that you don't even know about a subject that's personal like that.

And really, what sort of impact do they think that even has?! Like a girl is going to say "Oh wow, you're right--well now I'll have 10 kids! Thanks for showing me the error of my ways!" I mean, come on. :P

I can relate to that. A lot of people really do have a negative reaction to another saying they might not want kids. I love kids, but that doesn't mean I plan to have any of my own...if I even get married. I would just ignore the people lecturing you on that. It's not worth the hassle to listen to such people. If they want to say that children are a blessing from God, then fine. They truly are. That doesn't mean everyone should or will have that blessing. It's certainly not a sin to not want or have kids. If they say there is a verse in the Bible that says that, then I don't know which one they're reading. Also, how are they going to answer to the scripture where Paul suggests it's good to remain single even? He did apparently, so he didn't have kids. Would these people say he's sinning? Yeah...they have nothing. Each of us can best serve God in various ways. Some can better serve without children I'd say. Plus, God does allow us to make choices.
