In Genesis it states that Onan was killed by God for not complying to his order and thereby not having a child With his brothers wife.

Now i was a Christian untill recently when i read just this, Why is he having sex With his brothers wife in the first place? How do you justify this disgusting behaviour?

And How could God kill him for such a reason when there surely was others WHO could do it but his BROTHER, this is not kind

Why this change by God from this mean Guy in the OT to the nice forgiving in the NT?

his brother has died
back then males were given land
if a male dies the land goes to the son of the male
this man had no son
it is the brother place to bring a male son to the brothers wife
and in doing so the wife and her son can continue the dead brothers family tree
so Onan was spilling the seed to restore his brothers line saving the land for the dead brother

Onan was spilling his seed to prevent his new wife from conceiving
because the inheritance would pass to his deceased brother's line
and not his own if she were to bear a son, for he would then be heir.

Your decision to trade your opportunity to live beyond your earthly life in exchange tor a right to judge the God who created the earth and you seems like a very foolish decision, to me.

If a car could think and decide as we can, do you think a car would have a right to refuse to be driven by the one who built it? It would be much the same thing.

Hi Maholy, and welcome to CC...
Others have already addressed the "Onan" question adequately. Your question about God changing hasn't been addressed though.

God didn't change. In the OT, God is "slow to anger and abounding in love" and NT, He promises to bring His wrath on those who reject Him (and no, I didn't make a mistake there). In the OT, God was specifically preserving the line from which Jesus would eventually be born. All who had faith in Him then were saved, though the means of salvation (the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross) was not known to them while it is known to us. God is merciful now, and He was merciful then. Consider His conversation with Abraham in Genesis 19, or His closing sentence to Jonah.

Don't make rash decisions about your eternal future without spending an appropriate amount of time considering the matter in the present. If you haven't read the whole Bible, I'd recommend you do so. :)

God remains the same and always hates sin, and has to execute justice in peoples lives. I class what Onan did as cheating and not honouring his brother. Its equivalent to spitting on his brothers grave.
