So, I am 23 years old and still single...and right now I feel like the lonliest person on earth! Does anybody else feel this way? Recently ALL of my friends got married, and i'm not exaggerating...I mean I was in all of their weddings in 1 year (being a bridesmaid 4 times in 1 year is not fun!) So now, whenever my friends ask me to go somewhere or hang out, I am the odd girl out. I just feel so lonely. I have always been ok with being single, but not it really bothers me. Please tell me I'm not the only single person who feels the sting of lonliness? Am I just being a baby about it?

You are not alone. :) One thing to keep in mind though - there are alot of married people out there who are lonely as well. Marriage is not always a cure for that.

I'm sorry you're feeling lonely. I used to feel the same way (and sometimes I still do!) but God is teaching me a never ending lesson: always be satisfied with the abundance of Christ's love and you will never walk alone.

Just as Julianna said, even in marriage you are committing yourself to another earthly being who, alone, cannot provide you with the love required to completely rid yourself of loneliness. That is why it is so important that marriage be sanctioned with a man and woman who are equally yoked mentally and spiritually.

Also, we don't always know exactly what the Lord has planned for us. There are many things we can do while single that we can't do while married (or at least, marriage may make it much more difficult). Stay in prayer about what God wants from you, express to Him how you feel and lastly, be patient for an answer. It may come tomorrow, or a few years from now.

Its all an illusion. You look at married couples and you think to yourself "oh they seem so happy" "oh they are so lucky they have each other", etc.. but in reality a lot of those married men and women often wish they were not married or married to someone other than their spouse. Don't be fooled into thinking that getting married is going to make life all better because thats not true. Just ask anyone who has been married for a few years.

You are certainly not alone! I struggle with loneliness on a daily basis. I am often in the middle of a crowd but feel completely alone. Somehow, I feel like I do not matter to anyone any more.

The key thing to remember, though, is that no matter what, you need to be true to yourself. You will find that someone, who understands you and gets you, but patience is the only way to keep yourself objective enough to find him when you see him. Until then, take solace in the fact that there are plenty of people (and at least 1, in myself) who struggle with loneliness every day.

Everyone feels alone at some point in their life. I think that is the time for us to take stalk of reasons why we should not feel lonely.

It's certainly not the panacea most make it out to be. I've seen very few strong marriages. It can actually make life far worse then it was.

Nope you aren't alone! It really helps to seek out other lonely ppl and just do fun things together!

Ritt, I've never thought, me personally speaking here , that plucking corn in a field for all my reasons of loneliness would help much. :D

It happened to me years ago, now almost all of them are divorced

That puts thing well put in morbid , macabre way, lizzietheone.

Lizzy, that is sad, your married friends aren't around a filled spirit gal like yourself enough most obviously, or, the Swedish Chef silliness of you would be all aura them :)

But lizzy next go-round that your friends re-marry, let me know and I will help you get aboard, so you can , after we all divorce 2nd go-round ,empathize with them (gone through what they gone through) instead of now , since you never marry before, where all you can do is sympothize. :D

Ok, lizzy. i am JUST kidding around with you, you know, it's not easy bein' Green. :D

I'm sure you and I, the Lord leads, would last forever :)

I have a friend on CC who has been in 3-4 weddings in like the 3 months that i've known them, and has another friend getting married as well. Shes a few years older than you as well. I'm not sure how many other friends got married of hers, before i met her.

Quite often, actually. But God occasionally fills me up with subtle reminders that physical loneliness is tolerable as long as I abide in Him, and consequently, Him in me.

Well put.

Yes yes! Thank you Liz. See, if you stay single long enough, you will be the one they all envy after they've been through a long rough marriage. Married guys have often told me that I am smart for not getting married and that their wives like to nag about stuff and play games with their head. I assume its a similar story on the wive's side.

i know more then one strong family and looking on them i may say that there can be strong and loving family .

Hi Pink Lipstick;

I too am sorry that you're feeling lonely & out of the loop. But as Julianna & others say, having a band of gold on the finger is not, by any means, an antidote to being alone.
Feeling that way may seem like hard work - But it's even harder work contributing to a successful, loving marriage, trust me. However it's also true that if something's worth having, it's worth grafting for.
Look @ this site & the good folk on here. Surely here, at least, is a good starting point to dispel the lonely pangs?
I'm not necessarily speaking of deep, heavy duty conversations all the time but what about some light hearted, jokey craik too?
You can always give me a shout if you're down - There's times I'm as mad as a bag of frogs but I promise to make you smile!
J.

We all know people who married solely because it seemed like the thing to do at the time. Keep watching those relationships (and most certainly be praying for them). Don’t feel left out because that isn’t you. You may truly be blessed to be alone right now.

Marriage doesn’t cure loneliness or unhappiness. People who believe it does are always searching for the person who will “cure” them of these things when in truth they should allow God to be the cure BEFORE they commit to a serious relationship with someone.

Amen!!!! In the words of an old friend of mine, "there is nothing in this world better than a good marriage, and nothing worse than a bad divorce." We will never find contentment with another person, until we find contentment with ourselves. Entering into marriage expecting another person to fill our loneliness is placing an unfair burden on them that quite likely will end up in divorce court when you figure out that they can't meet your expectation.

I do understand that all of us, even those of us who are basically content and secure in our singleness go through times where the being alone gets old, but that should not be the sole reason for seeking a spouse.
