What does the bible say about oppressing women? Does anyone know anything about that? I’m asking because I had a huge discussion (I’d almost call it a fight actually) with a classmate about this subject, she’s an Atheist and is convinced that the bible is completely false and that it says Christians should oppress women. I mean, I agree that it talks a lot about women oppression, but that does not mean we should do it. Those are stories, but not all of them are requests/demands. But I have to admit: I’m not 100% sure about my thesis ^-^; All I know is that God is good and oppression definitely isn’t, so why would He ever support oppression?
I already asked someone a similar question and he responded like this:
"Back in those times, women were very.....well, uneducated. They were often "ratchet" and just not good for speaking to others about God and demonstrating mature and proper behavior (not all but majority women), so God did not want such people being in charge of just about anything. However, this has obviously changed especially in today's era where women are just as capable as men are. That being said, just keep in mind that God likes structure and order. He, for whatever divine and infinitely wise reasons He has prefers that men remain in charge and the head and leaders and women work beneath the man. Does this mean women cannot and should not preach, lead, and speak? Of course not! Women today should be just as hype for God and His work as men are! Many women are amazing preachers and have amazing hearts for ministry! But God would just prefer that they are under the power of a man who is just as strong in his ministry or even stronger. This does not mean the woman is now "weaker" or less valuable and etc, but more of she is just following custom and structure. She is still capable of doing all God has called her to do, but just does not have the title as the "Head Pastor" or something."
But that makes me wonder about something: Why doesn't the bible say something like "oh, I don't want women to be in charge when it comes to certain positions, BUT eventually there will be a time where women will be educated enough to be capable of it"
There are lot of prophecies in the bible, so why are there no predictions about this specific subject? (if that makes sense)
I'd highly appreciate your responses!
