Do the laws of the Old Testament still apply to today's life? I've been trying to figure this out for some time. Some seem like they do and others not. What do you think?

There is no harm in following all the commandments, laws, statutes, ordinances, and decrees in the Old Testament. However, I think those that pertain to the forms of worship were meant for Jews, not Christians. Obviously, the commandments, such as, "Do not bear false witness," pertain to everybody.

Right. I still hold the commandments to my heart. They were no doubt in this matter. It kinda confuses me a little because on one side you have laws, and the other Jesus.
Youll see people who go as far as to say the only laws you have to follow are the ten commandments. But if you read the entirety of the Gospel, youd see that thats just not true : p Were still told that the sexually immoral will not enter the kingdom of God. Nor the gossipers or many others.
I dont really have the best explanation for this, and there are people wiser than me who could answer this better : p But there are ceremonial laws that the Jews followed, and then there were laws that were given to the Jews, such as what they could eat, and there were times it was allowed to eat any animal, such as the time of Noah and now after Christ.
The laws still stand, and of course there are laws that are relevant and there are some that arent relevant. But dont let yourself be lead to believe that Christ has come to undo the law. We are told many people will not be allowed into the kingdom of God because of sins. We are to live doing what is right, not live doing whatever we want as long as we are not hurting anybody.

We do not go by the physical ordinances of Israel,for they were only temporary until Jesus came,for they could not have the Spirit,so they could never measure up to the spiritual laws,so God had them do physical ordinances,and laws as such,until Christ came.The physical ordinances could never provide spiritual salvation.
Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

We follow love God,and love people,in the New Testament,and Jesus said it is a new commandment that the disciples love each other,as Jesus loves them,for it is a new commandment for it could not be done perfectly in the Old Testament because they could not have the Spirit.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The love of money is the root of all evil,for it violates the 2 greatest commandments,and if you love people you love God,and the love of money neglects the poor and needy,and loving people is the fulfilling of the law.
The ten commandments is love God and love people,the spiritual laws.
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Those that confess Christ has to depart from iniquity.
1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

If someone claims Jesus as Lord,but holds unto sin thinking it does not affect their relationship with God,they are in error,for if a person sincerely does not want sin,and hates sin,by the Spirit they can abstain from sin,for God will not allow them to be tempted above measure,and will give them an escape from it,so they are able to endure it,and the Spirit will lead them to do good,but that is because they do not want to sin.
They are not under the law for they are abstaining from sin,therefore the law cannot touch them for prosecution.
We do not go by the physical ordinances,and physical laws of Israel,and the Spirit is our sabbath for it is spiritual now,and we obey the ten commandments,for they are love God,and love people,and Paul said,they are spiritual,holy,just,and good,and we do not void out the law through faith,but we establish the law.
In the New Testament,love God and love people,love works no ill towards their neighbor,therefore love is the fulfilling of the law,and if you love people you love God,for you can only love people perfectly by the Spirit,and help people out with their needs if possible,and if not,then the love of God is not in you,and to abstain from fleshy lusts,works of the flesh.
Love people,abstain from sin,to be right with God,which we can do by the Spirit,for a person led of the Spirit does not want to sin,and hates sin,which does not mean they might not sin,but those type of people,will not hold unto it for very long,and be right back in the Spirit,where a person that believes we cannot abstain from sin will hold unto sin,and act like we cannot abstain from sin,so they do not put forth the greatest effort to beat sin,and they have a kind of worldliness about them,and in a wrong position with God at that point,until they learn that God wants us to abstain from sin led by His Spirit.

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Observe the people that believe we cannot abstain from sin.Is there worldliness about them,the liking of material things,and spending money on their wants,liking worldly entertainment,worldly music,and shows,and might curse,and smoke cigarettes,drink alcohol,talk of things that are not proper,oogling after the ladies,and such.
Not saying that those that believe we can abstain from sin might not sin,but if you observe them they will not appear to be worldly in that fashion as those that believe we cannot abstain from sin.
You will know them by their fruits,and the more they act like Christ,which is to represent goodness,and love people,and help them whenever possible,the more in the truth they would be.

If you are In CHRIST then HE has taken care of that,If you are not In CHRIST,the law still applies to you.
