OT Salvation?

How were people saved in OT times (IOW, prior to the Lord's Crucifixion and Resurrection)?

How were those, who lived before the time that Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead, saved? How were their sins forgiven back then? Please explain why you believe what you do about this (and please use Scripture as part of your explanation whenever possible).

Hebrews 9:27,28 "Just as man is appointed to die once and then to face judgement, so was Christ sacrificed once to take away the sins of many, and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those awaiting Him."

Notice He will bring salvation- it's not permanent until we have been found faithful till the very end.

Jesus died one time for all people- for all in the past who obeyed God (144,000), and all who would obey God in the future (the promise is for you, your children, and all who are far off (future christians not born yet), as many as the Lord will call).

They were saved in the Old Testament by being sincere in doing what the LORD commanded them, and having the blood of animals cover their sins, and when Jesus shed His blood their sins were completely washed away.
 
From Adam until now all people are saved in the same way - faith in GOD and departing from sin.

All Israel will be saved as it is written, "The deliverer will come out of Zion and will turn ungodliness from Jacob; and this is my covenant with them" (Isa. 59:20, 21), when I remove their sins. (Jeremiah 31:31-34) Romans 11:26-27​
 
Everyone is saved by Jesus' atoning sacrifice on the cross even those that pierced Him only those that have witnessed and reject the sacrifice are not saved- otherwise everyone else is saved.

It is written - sin therefore death came through one man and salvation also comes through one man and affects everyone.
 
Jesus death is the pivotal event of the Bible and of the world. That is the event that Completed the old covenant and started the new.
Until that event knowone was saved. There were those on the OT with great faith that a redeemer was coming and that their ancestors would be the beneficiaries.
Jesus, before ascending to heaven visited those people. It is unclear to me if they also went to heaven at that time.

The OT saints were not "saved" like you and me in the sense that they were not:

1. born agian
2. made a new creature in Christ
3. redeemed by the blood of Christ
4. absent from the body, present with the Lord
5. did not have the sealing of the Holy Spirit

Those OT saints had to, on their own individual faith in what God told them at the time, carry out the instructions God commanded.
Their sins could be forgiven based upon their obedience, but they were not washed away. Upon death, those who were obedient to God's word, were placed in Abraham's bosom until Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

Jesus may be translated as the Salvation from God.....

Yes, all are saved by God's salvation. Now let us pray people seek His Salvation .

13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance,

But were they saved, or kept safe from hell fire upon death until the blood of Christ was shed? They did not experience salvation like you and I.

That's the future promise of the nation of Israel as they will be delivered at the second advent of Christ.

Did Noah put his faith and trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

But had no understanding of the cross. Even Jesus' disciples, Peter, James and John had no understanding of the cross. They were not "looking forward to the cross." Not until after His resurrection did Jesus start to open the minds of man to the understanding of what He accomplished through His death and resurrection.
 
...saved by being meek and humble, by forgiving others, by having mercy and judging righteously. That is the minimum standard in which men are saved...then as now.

Jesus Christ gave Himself as a sin offering for the whole world...in all time.

In Christ we have redemption and resurrection life if we have faith. This is not just on a final mercy and salvation basis. In Christ we can enter into His eternal life right now. The gospel is according to glory...not just a lack of death. It is life...His life.

We all have the same access to the death of Christ. He atoned for the sins of the whole world. That includes the past.

But we have access to much more than that by entering into Christ. He was raised from the dead for OUR justification....us believers.

How?

We are justified by partaking of His life...His resurrection life. This life is not for the whole world but only for they who enter into Him.

Rom. 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Resurrection life IS eternal life....it is a kind of life we enter into by faith..the faith OF Jesus Christ.

We become the light of the world in this way and the righteousness of God as an example to the world of God's perfect ways.

Yes, but they had faith in God and trusted that he had a plan.

But, if they were not obedient to His word including the law, they were cut off from God and His future promises. By obeying the covenants and ordinances of God to Israel, their sins could be forgiven but not forgotten, washed away.

He sure did. Whether he knew all of the details or not is irrelevant. All of the pre-flood sons of GOD knew of and believed in the coming redeemer.
 
It is Christ we partake of now...the blood of Christ. This is the life. Forgiveness of sins is needed to cleanse us...this is the first function of the blood. But a person who partakes of the blood continually, doesn't need to be cleansed since he is already cleansed by the life that is in the blood. So then there is no condemnation for they who live His life by drinking His blood. We take His life IN us.

The death of Jesus serves all mankind. It is for forgiveness of sins. This is the blood ON us.

But the resurrection life of Jesus serves only His church...this is for justification according to life....His life. This is His blood IN us.

The thing is that until the death of Christ, the final and only sacrifice for sin, knowone was clean and knowone entered Gods presence.
