It is always viable and worthy for each new crop of readers to read truth. The forum is must like television or radio. If you have learned it well, change the channel, but do not deny the necessity for light given to be shined for those who are still walking in the dark on the subject. God loves you. God bless you......

Is it too early to lecture on the pagan Christmas trees? :D

Why not just rerun the forums from last year or the year before? They are all the same.

Everyone who is dedicated to the Salvation sent by God knows this, and it is very important to know also in direct response to your post, neither do the pulpits always tell the truth.

Jesus is the truth. The forums don't always show the truth.

Three Questions:

1) Temporarily forgetting Easter and Pagan influence: In principle, Is it right for us as believers (in general) to be concerned about how what we do effects our witness?

2) Is the command to exhort and encourage one another still to be obeyed?

3) If the Lord persuades you to do something, Is someone's annoyance at what you are doing reason to stop?

Please save snide remarks and humor for another post.

Just a comment. Again, it is refreshing to read someone else is agains sarcasm and humor in our discussion of the Word. We are reminded to be sober minded at all times by the Word, but when I have aske others to be so, I have been laughed to scorn with chiding remarks infering that Jesuis was joking at times. I do not thing so, but this is what and how I believe and think. Perhaps I am missing something, Who kows? God bless you.............

The answer is in the word of God:

Amo 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell (accept) in your solemn assemblies.

but because we are in the church of human rights (people opinions) we will always have people trying to explain these days as "Christian" holidays. God is clear on this. Take it or leave it.

Easter came into the English Language from the German Oester meaning Goddess of the East.

Commemoration of the Resurrection (which was originally called Pascah) was moved by Constantine fron the Sunday after Passover to 2 Sundays after the Equinox, to coincide with the feast of Ishtar, Astarte-Aphrodite-Venus: a fertility goddess.

I believe that Resurrection Sunday should be called Resurrection Sunday, or Firstfruits; because it should not be associated with eggs, bunnies, or public orgies to honor a fertility goddess!

Of less importance, I believe that it should be observed on the Sunday after Passover, as it will be this year.

The resurrection was not on Sunday.

Some may not feel like it is a big deal to engage in pagan traditions and celebrations or the clergy/laity structure of churches.
To you it may not be, however God makes it clear all throughout His Word that He takes all these things very seriously and Israel has been punished for these things many times. Just because we do not call Christmas Baal day anymore, doesn't mean it is not. These pagan practices are much the same as you will find God killing people for practicing in the Bible.

We need to be a holy people, a royal priesthood. Our bodies and homes are to be holy. Could you imagine what would happen if a Levitical priest brought pagan items into the Holy of Holies? Do not be fooled into thinking that we are beyond the errors of the past, thinking that we are somehow enlightened and free from the foolish ways of the people who have come before us.

Jeremiah 10
Hear ye the Word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: [SUP]2[/SUP]Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. [SUP]3[/SUP]For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. [SUP]4[/SUP]They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

Stay away from those pagan practices... Following Christ and honoring our Father is not something you only do with your mouth. I'm sure the Israelites didn't think it was a big deal then either. God told them to keep themselves separate from the surrounding peoples and their traditions. Are we not Israel?

Revelation 2:2-6
‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6 Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Revelation 2:13-17
“‘I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 14 But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. 15 So also you have some who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’

Revelation 2:19-24
“‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first. 20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants[c] to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. 22 Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 23 and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works. 24 But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden.

Revelation 3:1-6
“‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. 4 Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. 5 The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

It is true that Easter has pagan roots. So why do people still celebrate this holiday? Surely there must be other ways to honor Jesus than with eggs and bunnies. Why not look to the bible. The night that Jesus died he was observing the passover it was Nisan 14th. (Leviticus 23:5) On that night he made a new covenant, he used bread and wine as symbols of his body and blood. This special night is referred to as the Lord's Evening Meal, or the Last Supper. He told his apostles to continue to observe this in remembrance of him. Instead of Easter why not observe the day that Jesus sacrificed his life for us. This year Nisan 14th falls on Friday April 3rd. Then on Sunday the day Jesus was resurrected why not read and meditate about the bible passages that discuss his death and resurrection. The most important thing to do is reflect on and give thanks for God's undeserved kindness and the gift of his son's life.

To anyone who thinks that professing Christ means you are perfectly safe no matter what. I urge you to study the actual words of Christ and the letters to the 7 churches in Revelation. God will punish the Church and many who attend "church" are actually children of the devil, professing Christ does not make you righteous if you practice lawlessness and turn from obedience

Commemoration of the resurrection is very appropriate! Naming the Commemoration after a Pagan deity and associating it with fertility symbols is not!. When the world looks at believers they should see notable differences in our actions and attitudes. If those distinctions are not present, our witness is compromised. If you believe I am mistaken tell me what 'Be Ye Separate' does mean

Relating to being "separate," it is interesting how the word, holy, is also seen or defined as being separate, and this is wonderful. Yes, we are separate by our new nature, and this may translate to teaching us we are not to adapt in any manner to the weays of the world when it comes to our faith. It does make perfect sense in Jesus Christ, amen.

English is a 'Germanic' language. Eástre the word was there in the Anglo-Saxon culture before Christianity.

Weird that you say, it came into the English language, like as if English wasn't a Pagan Language.

Those of us with European blood aren't Jews. We were all pagans back in the day.

You know what, even the Jews were polytheistic Canaanites too. They had many Gods in addition to Yahweh.

Uh, where are we told to commemorate the resurrection? God plainly tells us to keep the Passover, the Days of Unleavened Bread and the Wave Sheaf. The Wave Sheaf does not commemorate the resurrection, it pictures Christ presenting Himself to the Father as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

I am not well versed on this, but I believe this is related directly to the Feast of the First Fruits two days after Passover in the Word. Jesus Christ is the First Born of the resurrection. It makes sense to me that this feast was a prophecy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and once fulfilled by Him, it is yet to be observed as the First Fruits (First of the Resurrection." It is a halleluyah for me, always. Let me know what you get from this. Feast of the First Fruits, two days after Passover.
