Having been on meds since age 6, I am rather averse to taking pills. I HATE taking narcotics, unless I absolutely have to. I even despise taking an ibuprofen. I prefer natural (and tastier, lol) methods of pain relief.. Eating or drinking a natural inflammatory is sooo much better than swallowing a handful of pills every 6 hours.

Have certainly NOT read the 24 pages of comments..............goodness......talk about PAIN........!! :)

Just FYI, the VA Pain Management Clinic Program is a REAL HOOT!

My PC said he would send me to it IF I truly wanted to be prescribed Hydrocodone (which would relieve 95% of my pain) to increase my Quality of Life. I said "No thanks."

Reason? My Medical Records (for the problems I have been suffering through since March, 2016) are now over 500 pages. At least 7 Doctors, and a dozen or more Therapists, Technicians and such have Documented my situation. There is NO DOUBT what is wrong with me, nor the pain level it creates for me, or that Hydrocodone would be the BEST prescription to give me back my Quality of Life.

But, because of all this hoopla over Opioids from the Government and the CDC and AMA, the VA requires a person to "jump through a bunch of hoops" to receive the prescription they truly need. A Vet has to appear before a Board of 5 or 6 Doctors/Specialists..........from various callings........including Psychologists..........and be interviewed by each, do all the fancy tricks they insist you do to evaluate you, and, in the end............who knows?
500 PAGES OF DOCUMENTATION isn't ENOUGH?

Seriously?

I simply REFUSE to be the clown in their One Ring Circus.......so........I settle for a pain killer that is far less effective, and I suffer.......... Yeah, I know..........but after all this time I am more tired of being their clown/dancing bear than I am of suffering.

The human body is amazing in that, given time, it can adjust itself to a pain level, and that level kinda becomes the new Norm. Still HURTS LIKE THE DICKENS, but one learns ways to cope..........

anyway...........my thoughts

As I said a few times in previous post I believe that all pain medications, including narcotics should be able to be purchased OTC without a prescription and at an affordable price. The government has no business in deciding an what is an appropriate level of pain that the suffering must endure.

Most patients that need this type of medication to have any quality of life at all do not become addicts. A lot of the deaths that are in the news are from recreational drug use overdoses and not from patients that were actually prescribed these types of medication. There will always be those that are foolish and will overdose on some type of drug or other. While tragic, it is no reason for doctors to be afraid to lose their licenses by prescribing a certain type of pain medication in an effective dose.

Near the end of her life my late second wife, who suffered from severe debilitating arthritis, had her pain medication drastically reduced because of doctors afraid of government interference. I saw her crying one night in the skilled care nursing home where she was now a resident and asked her what was the matter. She said that she was in so much pain that she wanted to just go home to be with Jesus. She died 2 weeks later. She was a casualty of drugs also but in her case it was not an overdose but an underdose.

Not only was this a tragedy too it was also a travesty.

Also, ThermaCare heat wraps work miracles.. I use them on my back whenever the pain gets to be too much..
There is this member who says in another thread that heather helps lower his blood pressure. He provides documentation also to substantiate his claim. :)

last two days/nights have been a trial............

Shoulders and ankles giving me fits..........sleep is hard to come by for more than an hour or two.......

RS-4i treatment takes 45 minutes, then ice packs for each shoulder/ankle takes 40 minutes (10 minutes each), then a good rub down with ANE Cream and try to get some sleep if the pain eases up enough..........

Woke up thinking about what Scripture says about all this, so I had to do a "search" ..............

Romans 8:18 - For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Revelation 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Psalms 147:3 - He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

I am sorry that you are suffering from so much pain. I am doing alright except for the chronic pain in my neck and sharp stabbing pain in my lower back. I pop Advil and aspirin, not that it is very effective. I pray that you get the proper effective pain medication that you need even though it is a major hassle dealing with the VA.

Lately, I have been feeling tired and drained and there are days that I really feel my age (64). Actually, even in my 20's I have often felt this way due to what I believe is chronic fatigue. I talked to a doctor once about this and he said that there is not much medically that can be done to treat this.

Each morning I usually wake up with a stiff back and a pounding head. These are probably symptoms of depression but I have found that to alleviate this it helps to start doing stuff such as ordinary everyday mundane tasks. Even though this is one of my days off from work it has been a very busy day.

I really don't have a whole lot of idle time as I tend to get a little anxious when I'm not doing anything remotely productive. I very much look forward to entering God's rest that He promised but until then there still remains work that must be done. I take comfort in the fact that any good work that God has started in me that He is certainly able to accomplish this to completion for His glory and ultimately for my benefit as well and for those that I have met during my spiritual walk with the Lord.

It's not so bad if you think about it.

I think that I will go to bed early tonight and catch some ZZZ.

Hi Tourist. I don't mean to pry or anything but have you been able to cut down on your smoking? I only ask because smoking can lead to the type of symptoms you mentioned. I hope you feel better soon. And I hope you are drinking enough liquids. I remember once you said you barely drank any. Dehydration could also cause those exact symptoms. God bless.

Not really Zero. Still smoking. Still an addict.

I was drinking water quite regularly but have been slack in that regard too. Think I will open a Perrier and hydrate a little. I feel bad about the lack of progress in my smoking reduction / elimination. I would not classify myself as a hopeless addict but even I am starting to wonder about that. I have 3 containers of nicotine lozenges on the kitchen table. Should probably pop one of those too and wash down with the water.

Thank you for your kindness and consideration my friend. I will remember your kindness in my special morning prayers I say on my knees in the early hours of the morning before I head out the door to go to work. Each morning I always pray for God to calm my fears and go before me to prepare the path to do the work that my Heavenly Father has prepared beforehand for me to accomplish with His grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

God bless you and those that you love.

not to be a debbie downer, but

in short, if I were to go through the process of physically dying, how to overcome the pain that comes with the process?

Pain is a hard thing to deal with but for me, it helps to keep me focused on the task on hand.

It says in the bible that it is by the stripes of Jesus that we are healed but sometimes the healing process seems to be lifelong in duration.

My purpose in life, is by the grace of God, to alleviate the pain and suffering of others. Sadly, there have been times that my actions, neglect or omission, has caused or contributed to the pain and suffering of others. For these times I am contritely sorry.

The answer to your question is that we don't overcome the pain but must place our reliance of God to accomplish this and any other good thing as well. If you are in pain right now I will say a prayer for you for God to alleviate the pain and mitigate the suffering.

It has been said that without pain there is no gain. While this is a trite saying I believe that in contains a morsel of spiritual truth.

Yesterday I had to have minor surgery on my upper and lower jaw bone to reshape it in preparation for making the mold for my dentures. It was the longest and most painful dental experience I have ever had. I was given a script for narcotic pain medication but the doctor said that using that would be a last resort and he would rather I rely on just Advil. It's advanced medicine for pain. Popped a tab of hydrocodone this morning. The dose is so minimal that it is not much better than ibuprofen.

I have a follow-up appointment next week for suture removal. There will be no charge for this procedure as it is included in the initial cost. The most painful aspect of this whole ordeal is the overall cost. Taking care of your teeth is the same as taking care of your car as you can pay them now or pay them later.

On the plus side the brake job on the car last week was effective. I can now stop on a dime. Good thing too 'cause that's about all I will have left after all this is finally over and I can chew my food again. The first thing I'm going to eat is a carrot. I heard that it's good for your eyesight. That's another ordeal that has been in the making for a long time. One day I will be able to see clearly once again and will be able to see what I've been missing.

It's probably not much.

I just got back from my latest dental appointment. Today, the sutures were removed from my gums following last week's procedure to reshape my upper and lower jawbone in preparation for fitting dentures. The doctor was pleased that I did not need to take all of my narcotic pain medication that was prescribed last week and that I was healing nicely. Next appointment is in 6 weeks to begin the mold making process.

Do people take M and Ms for pain?

How do you stop the dentists reminding you to pay up or visit them. I want the tooth fairy to pay them.
Shall I just reply to them get in touch with the tooth fairy first and then I might see you?
