I think I am on firm ground when I say that the verses must be interpreted in the context of culture and time in history.
I keep posting that, yes, of course there are eternal and unmovable moral absolutes.
I have pointed out examples in this thread of God making concessions to the times and customs of societies. I am not going to repeat them.
I have asked this before; that if someone can show me, based on concrete irrefutable biblical evidence which is not a exegesis abstract, in which one can show that the bible states unequivocally that woman can not teach or preach, or pastor in times of emergency, or co-pastor or junior pastor, then I will alter my view.
But I am telling you before hand, if you throw quotes at me from what Paul and Timothy and others said from that day, I am going to reply in the context of the times.
The eternal truths described in the bible are moral, ethical, and spiritual. Woman not being allowed to preach, etc. just does not fall into that category.
And by the way the if the bible is silent on a issue, that does not always mean it condemns it.
The question if a man were married twice, can he pastor. Why not? It is out of the realm of possibility that the word is referring to a man who has more then one wife at a time? Or the first wife died or left him? Or how about this possibility, here is a novel one; he did divorce his first wife, but that man has a truly repentant heart and is forgiven by Jesus, has made himself of value to the church. So are you saying that the church can not forgive him? Or worse yet that they shouldn't?
I think that a lot of the reasoning of why woman can't do this or that is tradition. And while tradition is not always a bad thing, sometimes it can devolve into destructive dogma. Jesus was considered a radical in the time He came. He broke a lot of tradition. He berated the Pharisees because of their legalism and hard hearts.

Here is how you should test the conviction of your beliefs. If your wife told you she was going to preach, would you divorce her? The bible talks about disobedient wives...
"Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives. "(1 Peter 3:1)
You love the Lord, and want to obey him right?
So tell me that the act of your wife as a co-pastor (or is that cold pasta?) is so horrendous in your site that you would forbid it and take it to its end.
You could actually look her in the eye with conviction and say that you would alter your relationship with her over that?
What if she said no sex? I bet a lot of men would change their minds fairly quick. Because then many would mull over it and actually realize, that the argument is not all that rational, or Christ like. Not all of them would, but a lot would. So much for staunch beliefs.

If I told hubby I was going to preach, he'd get excited, and ask to whom. If I told him men and we're studying the Book of Romans... well, let's just say that would never happen.

If the choice is let a wife do what she wants or divorce her? Something is strange about that marriage. Very strange. He couldn't afford me doing what I want -- literally. lol

Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

How did Jesus love the church? Jesus died for the church so husbands better be prepared to die for their wives and I ended up being a servant to my marriage partner.

Got to tell you -- I'd really rather he NOT die for me.

Women have the Holy Spirit and can prophesy no doubt, but they can't prophesy in front of the church.

I have been to "church buildings" where the sum of the congregation has
amounted to 7 and one of them was the pastor - have I spelt that right.

On the other hand I have been to house groups where the number present
has been over 20.

What is the difference may I ask?

Are church buildings holy and homes not?

Is God only present in a church building?

Do pastors only go to church buildings, but not visit homes to preach?

Do only men go to church buildings, while the woman stay at home?

Is God so impotent that he will only give a word of knowledge to someone
in a church building, but is unable to do so in a house or vice versa?

Why is it sinful for a woman to speak in the large setting of a church building
but not at home? If she is saying something God has revealed to her, is God
bothered whether she says it in a church building with 7 people present or in a house
with 20 people.

Why does the size of the building matter to you?

Do you feel in some way that larger church buildings are anointed but homes
cannot be?

Can you not see how strange your belief is that women can speak in their own
house if they have a word of knowledge to share, but not in another building.
What is so special about the typical church building that you have come to
this conclusion.

Incidentally the majority of the work of Jesus was done in the open air so
that completely blows the definition of "church" out of the water.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt, KJV1611 and I listened to Billy Graham intently, waiting to hear him say something against the truth. But what I heard him say is that whomever God calls is saved.

That is absolutely the truth! No man comes to God UNLESS He calls him. And when He does call, no one can resist. I know God called me before I finally heard Him clearly. I faintly heard Him my whole life! I just didn't know who He was.

Billy Graham said that God calls us in whatever place we are at. No matter what religion we believe. That's not false.

I don't know what you're hearing, KJV1611 but I hear Billy Graham telling my true testimony. I was involved in so many false religions and cults, so chained in fear and hopelessness and depression, I thought God despised me as I was. it is nothing but a miracle that I heard the loving voice of God in my spirit. It HAD to be God's love and mercy that I heard Him call me to Himself.

KJV1611, God calls us to Him from wherever we are. How did you hear Billy Graham say something contrary to that?

I am convinced that what we have here, are a couple of cultists who are here to cause trouble and to disagree with those of us who accept the Christian view of the gospel

Neither of these two 'men' have anything to contribute other than to argue and declare things not in scripture but that they state is in scripture by stringing verses as 'proof' texts of what they put forth

By the way KJV, I'm sorry if we are giving you a hard time. Its not
easy to be on the receiving end of me verses them.

Its not a bad thing though to hear opposing views and to be put in
the position of hearing new ideas and concepts which we might not have
considered before. In many ways it is part of the learning and growing curve.

I wonder if we will remember all these debates in eternity. Lol
