It is interesting how people, well-meaning, will tell us we must obey our political leaders because they have read so in the Word.

When Paul was taken before the High Priest, Paul back talked him, showing a lack of respect. Now Paul must have thought this man was a political leader of some sort, but he was not aware the man in question was the High Priest, to whom Paul apologized profusely once made aware the authority was the High Priest. And Paul said that it was not allowed to speak tusly to the High Priest for it is written never to speak evil of you leaders in the Law.

Paul already knew Jesus Christ and grace, yet he was obeying certain laws because Israel still existed and teh laws pertained to a theocracy, and the leaders were its priests, with the High Priest supreme.

People who take this law to mean lay politicians are wrong on two counts. One, these lawyers who tell us we are to apply this to our political leaders ae usually the first to say the law is dead, demonstrating their own hypocsrisy. 2. There is not theocratic government in the majority of Christian nations; I would say in none at all.

A Man much wiser than you or I teaches us to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's. I believe we are all of the Kingdom of God with One High Priest of Whom we would never think to speak evil.

I do render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and I always have, but never if it conflictss wwith the true and only Authority, our High Priest, Jesus Christ, for Jesus Christ has nothing to do with Caesar.

There are other instances where lawyer grace individuals will bring up the law, while claiming they beleive the law is dead. Suicide is one good example, but there are so many these grace-filled lawyers tend to run to when it is convenient to them.

The only thing that is dead concerning the law is the will to learn from Jesus Christ just how it is to be used lawfully under grace, for none are saved without grace. God bless all in Jesus Christ for they hear Him, amen.

When faced with a decision one should remember the two greatest commandments ... in their proper order. Love and obey God first and foremost, consider your neighbor (and world authority) secondly.

Acts 5
22 But when the officers came and did not find them in the prison, they returned and reported, 23 saying, “Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing outside[a] before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!” 24 Now when the high priest,[b] the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be. 25 So one came and told them, saying,[c] “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”

26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”
29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Love this thread!

It should be a book. I the lame congregations I was in when younger, the confusion about this sole issue was painfully obvious and still I was to young to really care at that point.

But it is a very important topic to really teach. Paul obviously was a master at dicerning his legal rights as a citizen versus the real King and authority Jesus.

I have to read this through again. Try to gather all the info and all verses in scripture.

Thank you brother for posting. For some reason I think this is a huge issue. In Sweden, many christians think its even wrong to speak loud. Well theres a big diffrence between a loud speaker and a selfish screamer.
