I like the Christian author Francine Rivers... liked or outright loved everything I've read of hers so far, especially the Mark of the Lion trilogy.

Art? I love Ilya Repin.
He was an absolute master of facial expression.
(Apologies for Ivan the Terrible... That one is perhaps a bit grisly.)

You know my house has art work I love in it. But I think looking at others I must be a rare one who likes him. Even though he has galleries around the world I think you all may laugh. So I will ponder if I am going to show. There is some serious make you want to think art here.

Something I love about art is that it can be used to convey the entire spectrum of the human experience. I also enjoy art that makes a social commentary without saying a word, as some of our contributors have posted.

Here is an especially haunting, very recent piece in the exhibit "Dismaland" (a riff off Disneyland), located in the UK (*WARNING* Some may find this too disturbing):

This is a commentary about the death of Princess Diana. In the "theme park's" brochure, the caption says, "Step inside the fairytale... and see what it feels like to be a real princess."

I recently saw a live-action run of this piece and it's set up so that the mannequin photographer's "cameras" are going off constantly, creating constant, blinding flashes of light, in a parallel of Diana's car crash where the photographers continuously photographed the scene, but not a single one stepped forward to give aid or medical assistance.

I find this piece to be thought-provoking, haunting... and in some ways, even scarring.

One of the things I love most about art is that I can find something within its realm that expresses every facet of my personality, no matter how dichotomous: black and white vs. color, comedic vs. thought-provoking, elation vs. reflection, and fantasy vs. reality.

Ooops, just seen this. She is in arts school right now. She's taking a diploma in animation. I find it amazing how she actually gave up her IT job to chase this passion. She encourages me in following my own passion too. How God worked in her life is truly a blessing.
