Poll to remove flat earth threads from CC

  • Christian Chat is a moderated online Christian community allowing Christians around the world to fellowship with each other in real time chat via webcam, voice, and text, with the Christian Chat app. You can also start or participate in a Bible-based discussion here in the Christian Chat Forums, where members can also share with each other their own videos, pictures, or favorite Christian music.

If you are a Christian and need encouragement and fellowship, we're here for you! If you are not a Christian but interested in knowing more about Jesus our Lord, you're also welcome! Want to know what the Bible says, and how you can apply it to your life? Join us!

There's a very easy way in forums to self-censor things you don't want to participate in - don't click the link to the thread.

Although I am in favor of wisely monitored free speech, there occasionally comes a point where, in a privately owned online forum such as Christian Chat, a sincere group of people may request limitations on some types of speech.

For instance, in a privately owned Jewish online forum, there may be call to limit the ravings of pro-hitler anti-jewish posters.

The purpose of this thread is to see what people's thoughts and feelings are to no longer allow posts regarding the Flat Earth Conspiracy.

Even if the sentiment is unanimous one way or the other, it is still entirely up to the discretion of the website owner what to do about the issue.

Personally, I would like to see the subject banned. Threads or posts promoting the Flat Earth Non-Sense (FENS) will simply be deleted.

Those posters who continue to make such posts will gradually loose rep points. And after a few clear offenses will be banned.

At the very least, allowing FENS on the website:
1 - wastes disk space on the servers,
2 - clutters up the forums with non-sense postings,
3 - suggests to visitors to this web site that Christians are ignorant and crazy,
4 - wastes the time of posters such as myself and others who actually try to reason with the FENS,
(Yes, I know I can stop posting. I really don't know why I continue to do so.)
5 - takes attention away from truthful discussions about true concerns and real conspiracies,
6 - encourages the trolls or delusionaries who continue to post the FENS.

What are your thoughts on banning FENS?

Thank you.

So, you want to band me from the forum and the threads I like to talk about.
You have an avatar portraying a very violent, yelling child and that is reflected in the manner in which you speak to people.
One could easily think that you are very disturbed.

my view is that so long as conspiracy theories are tolerated here then flat earth theories should also be tolerated...although i believe in neither...flat earth theories allow people to see how crazy the conspiracy theorists actually are...

a statement in favor of a flat earth makes it abundantly clear that the conspiracy theorist making the statement is literally insane...by prohibiting flat earth threads it would deprive us of that window into conspiracy theorists' sanity status...

now my -ideal- situation would be if the conspiracy forum was deleted and all conspiracy theories were banned from the forum...including 9/11 conspiracy theories...sandy hook conspiracy theories...all talk of 'illuminati'...and everything else...

without that occurring...it is better to give the conspiracy theorists free reign to show everyone just how detached from reality they really are...

Flat earthers need our help, or they are trolls.

If trolls, kick them out, if nuts, they need help.

I do not think they discredit our faith, because all the christians I know understand these
people are nuts.

As an example of Christ we need to tolerate all questions and debates, but once the points
have been made, there is nothing left to share. A delusion is a delusion because it cannot
be moved, and you have to be deluded to accept what they are saying.

the flat earth threads are no danger because there is no chance of them leading any sane christian astray...it is the -other- conspiracy threads that pose a danger to the flock and it is -those- threads whose place on the forum should be questioned...

You sound as though you want to discredit anything said in conspiracy theories.
Do you realize I could consider that a conspiracy theory?
Did you know that watergate was once a conspiracy theory.?
The mafia was a conspiracy theory.
The Manhattan Project was a conspiracy theory.
And the list goes on and on.
Christians, of all people, should know what's right from wrong, not hide their heads in the dirt.

There is a difference between making theories as to what people and organizations do or do not do,
and making claims that defy both science and common sense.

Please reread my comments. You do not understand what I said.

we already have rules that no anti- Christian propaganda is used
we even have rules that say Catholics are not Christian......
so why should we allow crazy conspiracy theories?

While I am no conspiracy theorist just because something is a conspiracy also doesn't make it not true.
Conspiracy theories are a valid topic for true Christians and by their nature are not bad.
There are other topics on this site I think are more deserving of being banned due to their more blatant unbiblical nature's than something that may or may not be true.

That is true .... but what will a seeking person think if they enter a Christian forum and the top threads are about the flat earth, alien "gods" and similar topics? I don't feel a Christian forum is the right place to discuss any conspiracy theory, unless it is related to the bible and can be backed up by facts rather than "I say that it is so".

Then half the threads on this site should be removed. This site consists of mostly opinion.

Actually one of the biggest complaints I see non-Christian make about the site is the restrictions. So furthering restrictions would increase isolation.

I see posts by Catholics against protestants.
See posts by protestants that say Catholics are Christians.
Posts by Christians saying Catholics aren't Christians.
Posts Christians saying once saved always saved.
Posts saying the opposite.
Posts for the law.
Posts against the law.
Posts for too much grace.
Posts for not enough grace.
For the gifts.
That the gifts have ended.
For prosperity gospel.
Posts against it
Posts arguing about what a word translated from the original Greek.
Posts calling others heretics, non-Christian, unsaved.
Name calling. Spite. Anger. Resentment. Bitterness. Selfishness. Callousness. Arrogance. Religious.
So no, when I think about what a non-Christian might conclude about God or Christians from this site, that we have a minority of conspiracy theorists is not high on my list of things that make us look bad.

Yes, let's talk about science and common sense.
I was in the 8th grade in 1963.
My 8th grade science book was considered to be accurate science and it made common sense.

Today it would read like a comic book.
How many years will it take for today's 8th grade science books to read like comic books?

Yet you want me to take your statement above serious.
Are you serious?

you know what the difference is between watergate and other real conspiracies and the 9/11 'trutherism' and internet conspiracy theories?

the -real- conspiracies were not exposed by the denizens of the fever swamps of the internet...watergate was exposed by the nefarious media...MK ultra was voluntarily declassified by the nefarious CIA...

the internet conspiracy theorists have yet to uncover -one single actual conspiracy-

quote~
"We date from the First of January, 1601. This era is called the Era of Man (E. M.) to distinguish it from the theological epoch that preceded it. In that epoch the Earth was supposed to be flat, the Sun was its attendant light, revolving about it. Above was Heaven, where God ruled supreme over all potentates and powers ; below was the kingdom of the dead, hell. So taught the Bible. Then came the new Astronomy. It demonstrated that the Earth is a globe revolving about the Sun, that there is no ' up and down ' in space. Vanished the old Heaven, vanished the old Hell ; the Earth became the home of man. And when the modern Cosmogony came, the Bible and the Church, as infallible oracles, had to go, for they had taught that regarding the universe which was shown to be untrue in every particular." - Lucifer, Dec. z^rd, E. M. z8f ( i88f).

The Bible says "plane" "fixed" "a circle". That's what it says. Who blinds us? The god of this age. Ban the flat earth threads, you may as well ban the Bible too, because not many read it anyway. It's much easier to be "told" what it says than read and study for yourself. I've seen more people interested in the Bible at football games than on CC..., no here it's much more fun to belittle and judge.
