I agree with limelime. God has a plan for each of us. Perhaps He has a husband/wife for us, If that is in His plan then sure, I guess you can say we have a "soulmate". That person would be whom we are meant to be with. I do however believe that two people with God, can make almost any relationship work. The best thing is to pray and ask God to show you when you come across that person He has for you.

I think people get so passionate about believing in a soulmate because that is simply where they place their hope. We don't know what the full extent of His plan for us is and for some it's simply easier to deal with life thinking they won't be alone. All our hope should be placed in God and Him alone. If we were able to just trust Him and place our hope in the plans He has for us, then things would be much better. If all of our focus is on a "soulmate" then we are allowing a person to replace the one person that will ALWAYS be here for us, God.

Most of what I've done is getting "I'm definately in the barn being taught what I should be giving instead ..

Learning Gods perfect love "for us" is the key to tue great commission of walking out His love and handing it to someone else. Part of discernment, is knowing tue difference between the two of what "we, ourselves are doing"
That age old " get the beam out of our own eye" . most of society in relationships are to busy looking at the speck in the other persons eye... And we winder why we are single... the minute someone begins trying to pull specks out of my eye ... I know right then, they have lost their focus .. As well as my own .. If I'm to busy correcting what the male gender needs to correct ... I will be no good to it... the best thing I can do is get my attention off the male gender and let God correct what is wrong in me . that's the best gift and example I can be to my partner "God willing He makes me useable enough to be one " and other women who are struggling in simular issues..
singleness comes from God... if we are not in a content loving, trusting, relationship with God first, how can one ever expect contentment inside any other relationship?
God will have no idols come before Him... its a matter of the heart... If we give it to someone before giving it to God .. The breakdown will come... If we are offered someone's heart and keep it for ourselves before handing it to God , we will become selfish in our own desires to keep it.
it's a matter of the heart... Not the other persons, but our own...

of illusionists becoming masters in their own illusions of what love is..

I thoroughly believe there's no such thing. I think a lot of people mistake the hormones that go along with finding someone you like for the feeling that they've found ''the one'' and that's a set up for heartbreak....of course when it doesn't work out i would bet a solid half of them will just say ''oops. i mistaken....they weren't REALLY the one.....that person over THERE is the one!!!'' and then they'll trot off to the next guy/girl. I think that considering how many people there are in the world it would be ridiculous to say that there can only be one person for you. I think we're all compatible with many people and it comes down to picking your favorite. And once you've committed, stick with it! you can choose to love just about anyone. So when the going gets rough don't just drop your guy/gal like a hot potato and say ''welllll...turns out they weren't my soulmate after all

Well I can't speak of soul mates, cus it really doesn't matter to me if we have or not. But with reference to Paul, I think context is important. Paul discouraged marriage at the time of when was writing the letter to Corinth, because he believed that Jesus' return would be in their lifetime. To remain as you are (wed or unwed; uncircumcised or circumcised; slave or free), for the present world is passing away (1 Corinthians 7:17; 21; 26-31).
If someone was thinking of getting married Paul was concerned that they 'their interests would be divided' (1 Corinthians 7:34) In his letter, he didn't want to restrain them from marrying, but to be secure in their devotion to the Lord. If a person could not control themselves, then it would be best that they marry. It appears to me, his stance of marriage is based on the belief that Jesus would return soon, and because there is no marriage in Heaven, why focus on that when the time is so short on earth.

Isn't that the way we're still supposed to be living? When did we enter the phase when we stop expecting the return? And is there still not truth and wisdom in the idea that the more time and energy we invest in things of this world the less time and energy we have in serving God? Doesn't God expect as much devotion from His followers now as He did 2000 years ago? What's changed?

Wouldn't it be better to believe that there's more than one compatible, loving person out there for you than to believe that there is only ONE who you can be happy with? I think that believing in a soul mate is setting yourself up for a lot of unnecessary pain and disappointment down the road.

What are your thoughts?

Their is a soul mate for everyone the right one that God Chooses for everyone

I believe God, in his Providence and Sovereignty, places everyone in the right place at the right time to accomplish His purposes. In this sense, I believe in ''soul mates'' but not in the way the world does. I don't believe there is one person created FOR ME to be happy and live happily ever after. But I do believe God places people in my life with a purpose and a plan on His mind.

I remember Ruth. What if she hadn't found anyone to redeem her? I don't think it was mere luck what placed Booz in her life. Jesus Christ came from that family after all. The interesting thing about Ruth is that she found her ''soul mate'' while she was trying to provide for her and her mother in law. She was busy working and taking care of her own house, she wasn't waiting for someone to fall down from Heaven and knock at her door. I believe this should be our attitude when looking ''but not looking'' for a soul mate.

I don't believe there is ONE person created for me, but I do believe God wants me to be with one specific person. I could be disobedient and marry whomever I want, but I don't think that would be Hiis original plan. Maybe His plan for me is not marriage, but if it is I know that He doesn't want me to marry just anyone. I guess what I'm trying to say is....''In him we live, and move, and exist''. We should live with that in mind.

As stated in earlier posts, I was just curious what others who believe in a single, specially created soulmate believe if 1. your soulmate dies before or after you meet them... Are you then destined to be alone? 2. Likewise, if your soulmate decides to marry someone else, does that also mean you will always be alone?

Just wondering what the consensus was for those who believe there is only one right person.

Most people believe that life has a meaning and that God has plans for their life. That we are not the products of an empty mindless universe. I believe that too.

God meant for marriage to ultimately be with one person and one person only, unless that person dies. There are many scripture passages I can quote, but you all know them already anyway. This is why you should search long and hard before getting married. People make mistakes in this area all the time, but at least its our duty to try and not fail, and if we fail to try again.

This whole soul mate thing can lead to a dangerous line of thinking. The idea of a soul mate stems from the belief that God has a precise plan for your life. It's also nice to think that somewhere out there is a God-formed person that He made just for you, and that person is just waiting for you to come into their life and complete them.

So God has a soul mate for us, that is, the perfect person for us to marry, does that mean He also has a soul job for us...as in the perfect job? More people get jobs than get married, and it's an important thing, so does God have a perfect plan for ours? A soul house perhaps...where any other house just wouldn't work out? What about a soul taco salad? Soul stick of bubble gum?

I think you get my line of thinking here. I'm hesitant to say that there is no such thing as a soul mate, but maybe first we should ask ourselves a question: how much of our lives does God have pre-planned-out for us and to how much does He just say "you can make your own choice, and as long as you're loving your neighbor, you're still in My will"?

I believe in soul mates. But I don't look at it as if there is only *one* true mate for everyone.
I think we have many soul mates, but depending which life path we chose determines which one(s) we will actually meet and get to know. And not all soul mates are of the romantic kind. Some can be more like a best friend who is like a sister or brother.

I don't believe that everyone has a "The One", and I don't particularly like the term "soul-mate"......only Jesus can complete us, so isn't HE our soul-mate?

However, I has seen God work things in my life in ways that I KNOW only He could orchestrate, so I have no reason to believe that He wouldn't also be involved in bringing a husband into my life, IF that's what He wants for me. So, I'm sure that anything God sets up will be awesome, because His ways are perfect :)

A soul mate is nice to have, think possible, and, guess what, good news, ALL things are possible with God. 'Course, in another part of Scripture it is saud that while all things are possible, not all things are 'profitable.'

Why are some so passionate about belief in a soulmate? To add to my original reply, the more I thought about this question, I found it to be quite intriguing. After reading the other posts, I discoved that I am one of the passionate ones. I started thinking about my childhood and it dawned on me that I have been this way since I was 5 years old. When I was 5 I started liking girls but I liked this one girl in particular ( ironically I slept with this girl 20 yrs. Later ). I thought about this girl all the time. I used to watch her all the time in our pre-school classroom. I didn't see her for years after pre-school this pattern went on for years with other girls and young ladies. In middle school the fantasy intensified . Lots of guys had girlfriends. I didn't but I wanted one. I remember searching around school seeking a girlfriend. But in retrospect I was really seeking a wife, because I always focused on one girl. I never found a girlfriend in middle school by the way. My desire for a girlfriend became so strong in high school that I prayed to God for one
A week later I had girlfriend. I fell in love with her. That lasted eight years. Love was the ultimate high for me. I became addicted. To have one love for a lifetime became my ultimate goal. Three months later I started dating and eventually married a young lady from my church. That relationship lasted 20 years. Ironically, when I surrendered totally to Christ our relationship began to fall apart. I told this story because I don't think that I chose my passion. I was born with it. I would like to be with somene who fits me. But God will make that choice for me. If He wants me to be with someone, He will make the arrangments. So, if a soulmate is someone that I can share God and love with for the rest of my life with, then these are reasons that I am passionate about it.
