Pope Francis has decided not to judge homosexual behavior amongst Catholic priests saying he won't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a news conference today as he returned from his first foreign trip.

Ironically, the Pope says his reasoning is that he shouldn't judge homosexuality amongst Catholic priests even as he judges that it's morally acceptable rather than adhering to God's Word (e.g. the special revelation God has extended to humanity) on the matter which clearly states that homosexual acts are immoral and church leaders should be disqualified for engaging in them.

This is what happens when Christian leaders selectively ignore God's Word and set themselves up over God as a religious authority and begin working against God's morality which really is an extension of God's character.

Eventually this results in the corruption of both the religious organizations they lead and their religious organization's epistemology which then acts as a corrupting influence on the world.

I'm glad I'm not a Catholic today.

An orientation does not mean they are acting on it. He is talking about celibate priests.

According to La Repubblica, the dossier comprising "two volumes of almost 300 pages – bound in red" had been consigned to a safe in the papal apartments and would be delivered to the pope's successor upon his election.

you realize straight priest can molest little girls instead of boys right? Doesnt matter if theyre gay or straight they can still commit the same crime.
 
Well was the pope to judge in the first place, If he knows God words, and if he is in that position to be a religious leader? who is he to judge in the first place. Sounds like he is covering up one of many mistakes and errors that the Catholic church has made.

ooooh Mr Pope is in trouble now, I have no problem with the gays but I do not support them being Priests. Also I hate the whole pope idea anyways, People seem to worship and respect a pope in the catholic chruch than God himself. Also never liked the idea he gets called father, as he is not our father God is
 
The Bible has clear morality requirements for church leaders and advocates testing them first. Being involved in sexually immoral liaisons with other people disqualifies a person from church leadership.

In the Holy Land, lists of qualifications for office appear in both Jewish and Gentile sources with lists of virtues appropriate to such offices appearing even more commonly in archeological findings. These lists were applied to political, military, and religious offices. Exceptions were not stated in general lists of qualifications.

In the Bible, the term translated “overseer” (NIV, NASB) or “bishop” (KJV, NRSV) was elsewhere in use in the ancient world for leaders, and Paul uses it synonymously with “elders” (Tit 1:5, 7).

The number one qualification for overseer is being “above reproach” with regard to their own morality and frames the other qualifications (3:2, 7). This was an ancient way of emphasizing that all other qualifications focused on this issue which Paul ties to “keeping hold of the deep truths of the faith” (NIV) itself a critical qualification given the prevalence of heresy being brought into the church from immoral and deceived people.

So a church leader must be above reproach with regards to their moral behavior while also holding to a right scriptural epistemology.

What is known, is that the pope's statements are deeply flawed from a scriptural context. What is not known is if it is a result of personal deception on his part or personal weakness in that he is caving in to internal and external political pressure.

To Have a homersexual orientation means to have an attraction to the same sex rather than the opposite sex. This is not the sin. The sin is falling to that desire/temptation and committing the act. Just like someone who falls to the weakness of anger, doesn't control his temper and assaults someone. The same can be said about priests. A hetrosexual priest who falls to the temptation to sleep with a woman is JUST AS WRONG as the priest who sleeps with a man. All sins are the same, are they not? Pope Francis is right in not singling these men out. We are all called to stay strong in our faith and fight our temptation, whatever that might be. The article says Pope Francis DID NOT judge these men, which is something we can all learn from him. Indeed, it seems the only one being judged in this thread is PopeFrancis.

Then, brother, if you choose to take it so literally, then you want to stop calling your biological father "father" too, or your school teacher "teacher", or your pastor "pastor". There is also, according to Scripture, only one teacher. In peace.
 
His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. But you're saying the last pope was wrong and this pope is right.

And contrary to your present opinion, not all sins are considered by God to be equal though I agree with you they are all damnable outside of Christ.

Jesus said there were "weightier matters of the law" (Matt. 23:23 KJV), such as, for example, mercy and justice over tithing. He also declared our love for God to be a higher duty than our love for human beings, calling the former "the first and greatest commandment" (Matt. 22:38). Jesus told Pilate that "the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin" (John 19:11).

The more severe eternal punishment for some is due to the heaviness of the sins they have committed (Rev. 20:12). John spoke of a sin so monstrous that God took the guilty person's life (1 John 5:16).

Paul said some were disciplined with death by God for partaking of the Lord's table in an unworthy manner (1 Cor. 11:29-30), indicating that this is a particularly substantial sin.

Not only are some sins greater, there is also a "greatest" sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 12:32).

All sins can be placed into two broad categories: sins of commission and sins of omission. This means that some sins are doing what we should not do, and others are not doing what we should do.

God singled out seven particular sins He cannot abide:

"There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: [l] haughty eyes, [2] a lying tongue, [3] hands that shed innocent blood, [4] a heart that devises wicked schemes, [5] feet that are quick to rush into evil, [6] a false witness who pours out lies and [7] a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. (Prov. 6:16-19).

Simply stated, these are pride, deceit, murder, plotting evil, quickness to do Wrong, false testimony, and troublemaking.

Etc...

Putting men with deeply-rooted homosexual tendencies or deeply-rooted pedophilia tendencies into positions of church leadership is a bad idea just like putting men with deep-rooted tendencies to embezzle in positions of political authority is a bad idea.

The former has already led to sweeping problems of sexual abuse around the world that they engaged in from their positions of authority within the Catholic church.

That's why the first pope signed a declaration stating it was a bad idea in 2005.

But new pope new message. Now it's all good to put men with deeply-rooted tendencies of gross sexual immorality into positions of authority in the Catholic Church.

It's not hard to see what comes next.
 
The Catholic Church is the number one religious institution for molestation of children. I don't think that just because someone is homosexual they will molest a child, but this news worries me.
 
Is this really a surprise, really? I am not a bit surprised by anything they do, or except.This is still the same group of people who claim we should pray to dead saints and to Mary..because Jesus might not feel like it! This is the same group of people who claim that their Pope is infallible..can do no wrong! Francis, the Pope better watch it, they might dig him up after he dies..put him on trial..cut off some fingers and chunk him in the Tiber! After all, this group has not surprised me at nothing they do or say.

I have a multitude of problems with the catholic church, however this pope's statement is being a little misunderstood. We have to be consistent. Homosexuality is a sin, so is lust, pride, drunkenness and so on. If someone has homosexual feelings, just as if someone has lustful feelings toward women, or other sinful thoughts, and confess their sin AS SIN, and truly try to refrain from acting on it, by feeding the Spirit, then I don't have a problem with them in ministry. There are no sinless, perfect clergy out there. Homosexuals, like other sinners, who confess their sin and repent, are just as much my brother in the Lord than the man who has lived, what WE would consider, a righteous life.
 
some time ago i expressed my suspicion based on some of francis' earliest acts as pope that he is a closet liberal...he continues to confirm my suspicions...

Yeah.
People jump to such conclusions.

Whenever a pope makes it okay for priests to be gay,
people automatically assume the priests are going to start do something.... umm... gay.

I'm sure there are lots of good reasons for being gay... besides doing gay stuff.

I guess it depends on where you stand. If you believe that people are born homosexual you will probably have a different position to one who believes it is a result of the environment.

I told my husband... THIS IS IT... WE ARE COMING CLOSER TO THE ANTICHRIST.
