This reporter is notoriously unreliable and has no recording of the interview. What journalist does not record an interview. Also the Vatican has denied the Pope said this.

That's going to make a lot of Catholics breathe easier for a while. Their doctrine of purgatory has always given them a back door through which they will sneak into heaven.

For the cause of Christ
Roger

Purgatory is necessary because rarely does a person die with their sanctification complete. We must be completely conformed to Christ before we can be admitted into heaven. Nothing impure can enter heaven. There are no stinking masses of sin covered in a robe of Christ's righteousness in heaven. Only when every last attachment to sin is purged will that soul go to heaven.

Only bodies can have mortality or immortality. But souls are imperishable and eternal, therefore they have eternal destinies.
Smart aleck moment again!...
Don't forget it is written "Fear he who can destroy both body and soul",so they can be destroyed or no longer eternal but only by God's hand.

I would like to see one verse that states "THE CHURCH" is the restrainer......let us take this logic to the fullest extent uing the verse that everyone uses to prove this.....

Before we look at it..ALMOST ALL say the church is the BRIDE of CHRIST....JESUS is male and BY DEFAULT if THE CHURCH is the BRIDE then the church must BE A SHE because the bible does not promote gay marriage or homosexualism....

NOTE the VERSE....SO....explain the personal PRONOUN HE and JIVE that with BRIDE!!!!

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way.

For the mystery of lawlessness is working already; there is only the one at present restraining it, until he might be gone out of the midst.

Greetings Metternich,

I'm afraid that you don't understand what Christ did for us. Once a person receives Christ, they are cleansed of all sin past, present and future as they continue from faith to faith. As the scripture says, "whoever has the Son has life, whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." Therefore, from the time we receive Christ, there is no attachments of sin that need to be purged before we can enter into heaven, because the believer is cleansed of all sin through faith in Christ.

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us."

Sanctification is the process of being transformed into His image, i.e. being made holy, which is a life-long process, however, God already sees the believer as righteous because His Son is righteous of whom we are believing in.

When an individual has faith in Christ, they are credited with His righteousness and have been reconciled to God, who looks at the believer through the spectacles of Christ and sees us with His righteousness.

Jesus' fulfillment of the law is applied to every believer as completely satisfied.

Likewise, God's wrath that every believer deserves as a result of sin was poured out on Christ, satisfying it completely and fully, so that the wrath of God no longer rests upon the one having faith.

Also, there is no such thing as Purgatory. The believer has the promise of eternal life in the kingdom of God and there is death, which is separation from God in punishment in the lake of fire. One is ether in Christ and saved or they are not in Christ and are lost, there is no purging of sins after one dies.

And absolutely no requirement for it...
As Ahwatukee has so deftly explained!

Proverbs says a righteous man falls seven times but gets up. So saved people do sin. Don't you have habitual sins that you seem to fall into routinely. You basically said all men do in your post. But Jesus did not fall seven times. He never fell. I am just saying on our last day on this earth we will fall at least seven times and after death our sanctification must be completed so that we are totally conformed to Christ.

Forgive me for not knowing scripture as well as you. What verse is this and what are you saying?

"that if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." - Romans 10:9

Regarding the above, notice that there are no conditions, but through is through faith alone, which is what saves the believer who confesses Christ.

"Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the Law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous standard of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. - Romans 8:1

As the scripture above states, for those who believe in Christ there is no condemnation.

Proverbs says a righteous man falls seven times but gets up. So saved people do sin. Don't you have habitual sins that you seem to fall into routinely.

If "saved people do not sin" then we would all be lost, because God has already said that there is none righteous, no not one. All have sinned, all fall short of the glory of God." That's where Jesus comes in. When one has faith, Christ's perfect life in the flesh is imputed to the one believing in Him. Though we still have sinful natures, God sees us with the righteousness of Christ, because we are having faith in Him. Whatever Christ is, God sees all believers with the same righteousness, even though we are still sinners.

Jesus did not fall seven times. He never fell.

You are correct! Jesus never fell, which is why how we are made righteous. Just as through one man sin came into the world and through sin came death for all people. Likewise, through faith in Christ comes righteousness and eternal life. By the way, believers are going to fall a lot more than seven times. I'm speaking in regards to my own life. But, as we continue in Christ, being led by the Spirit, we are being transformed into the Lord's image. At the resurrection that process will be completed when we are changed into those immortal and glorified bodies, minus the sinful nature.

Think about the man crucified next to Christ. He could not come down to do any works or even be Baptized, but had faith saying "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "today you will be with me in paradise." So through that simple act of faith, in his last minutes of life went from dead in his sins to being cleansed of all unrighteousness and attained eternal life.

sanctification must be completed so that we are totally conformed to Christ.

Sanctification, i.e. the believer being made completely perfect, will never happen in this flesh. It is an on-going process that will be perfected at the resurrection when every believer is transformed into their immortal and glorified bodies. Regarding the man on the cross previously mentioned, he didn't even get the chance to begin sanctification, but was saved. He was cleansed of all unrighteousness through faith while hanging there on the cross.

After I already responded to you, I began my daily study and I read the following, which is relevant to what you said regarding saved people sinning:

"But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ, even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved!

If "saved people do not sin" then we would all be lost, because God has already said that there is none righteous, no not one.

So did God tell you personally that there is none righteous because the scriptures don't support that claim?

  • There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. Luke 1:5-6
  • Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, Matt 23:29
  • Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.1 John 3:7-8

While I understand that it is written that Paul wrote in Romans 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" then can show where you found it written "There is none righteous, no, not one" or did you even look to see if it was true?

All have sinned, all fall short of the glory of God."
The only way a man can fall short of the glory of God is if he believed he was, or could become equal with the eternal God. As written, Jesus didn't come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners, who he describes as being those who do the lusts of their father the devil who was a liar from the beginning and abode not in the truth.

Forgive me for not knowing scripture as well as you but what verse are you quoting and what are you saying?

2nd Thessalonians 2:7 and the fact that most say the Church is the restrainer that will be removed and I contend this verse uses the personal pronoun HE which is male and that if the church is the BRIDE (SHE) it cannot be the HE that is restraining....regardless of who tries to FORCE the church into this verse.....
