You might say I'm a dreamer..... but I'm not the only one.
Imagine a thread to discuss dreams. (waves magic wand)......... huzzah.
Imagine a thread to discuss dreams. (waves magic wand)......... huzzah.
I've been fascinated by this topic since I can remember. I chose this topic, the interpretation of dreams, for a 7th grade English paper and that's where I was introduced to Freud's philosophy in regard to their interpretation. Pity really, that was the prominent 'expert' opinion on it at that time that had a decidedly Oedipustulous (if I may make up my own word) influence or something similar threaded throughout it. I think Jung had a more hopeful outlook but still stopped short of offering credit to any real divine influence (unless I'm speaking from an ignorance of his complete philosophy)
So, I'm always game for discussing dreams, but I will likely exercise reservation in sharing mine although it's not that I haven't done exactly that somewhere within a number of my posts, at any particular time, of course. However, I'm sure a won't be able to contain myself against any attempt to interpret them.
I would like to ask insight to questions such as, 'why must they seem so scary?' such as in the example of skinny cows devouring fat cowswhich would seem contrary to what might 'normally' occur.
I find scripture full of dreams-- to ignore them, or dismiss them, or diminish what they are, is a mistake. I have had many dreams, but one in particular became significant when I met someone with a particular gift of understanding. He didn't "interpret" my dream at all. He just told me what it meant, and the moment he spoke, I knew he was speaking truth into me.
He became a friend and mentor. And I've looked at dreams quite differently ever since. It matters not if you don't feel comfortable sharing. Perhaps you'll gain insight from others, as I myself did.
I've definitely been given dreams that I couldn't dismiss. And as a matter of fact, I can't look at your avatar without a particular one coming to mind. A white horse running alongside me except for the fence between us. I wanted it but was at a loss of how to procure it for myself. And then, a police officer pulled up in a cruiser and walked up to me carrying what was either a lasso or a bit and bridle (O only know it was for the purpose of capturing the horse).
Forgive me.... but it's my thread so I will share from my heart and there is always a song in my heart. The words to songs-- the lyrics, are like dreams to me-- carrying strong images with deep meaning. And if one listens and watches-- and learns, the mystery fades like mist and truth is revealed. oh believe it.
Happy to share a horse with you.... (1:45) Catch him if you can.
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
From the mountains of faith
To the river so deep
I must be looking for something
Something sacred I lost
But the river is wide
And it's too hard to cross
Even though I know the river is wide
I walk down every evening and I stand on the shore
I try to cross to the opposite side
So I can finally find out what I've been looking for
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the valley of fear
To a river so deep
I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I'd never lose
Something somebody stole
I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is that I've been looking for
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the jungle of doubt
To a river so deep
I know I'm searching for something
Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night
I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That runs to the promised land
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night
This is strikingly 'reflective' of an interesting thread that was posted within relatively close proximity to this one, started by @Unknown, titled Another Realm?. Have you read it?

@Mem -Anways, I share only because of the mentioning of your horse dream with the cop. I also dreamed that I was completely naked, pressure washing my car in the garage, when for some strange reason my mom let a lady out the door from the house to the garage.
"Ma! I'm naked out here!" -but it was too late. The grinning lady was wearing hospital scrubs and she hurried out as I tried to cover myself and hide behind the car.
Your son must've inherited your sense of humor, which you inherited from your ma.![]()
My late mother was wicked funny. So yes, I suppose you're right.
With respect to dreams on the whole, I can offer some insights, gleaned from years of experience and from a kind and generous mentor. While I have my own hard copy of Jung's big red book, it hasn't been read yet, and as for Freud.... I'm a-freud-not.
Dreams, like that @Unknown indicated in their recent posts- it's a whole 'nother world. A realm unto itself. I'll not venture there uninvited, so if anyone stops me and asks directions, while I'll be happy to offer, I will never dive headfirst into someone else's pond. In other words-- if anyone has an interest, know it's a shared interest and I'll give you as I've been given, by request and in private if preferred. Dreams can be very personal, very intense and very important. Dive deep if you want to get to the bottom of something.
Thank you. I'll certainly feel welcome that an adopted teacher claims is a fear which we all come into and leave this world having to face, the fear of rejection. And currently, I'm wrestling with that at the moment due to a not-so unforeseen event. If it weren't that this happened to occur on Mem B'Omer (yesterday), the 40th day after Passover, and which the aforementioned teacher regards as 'the day of (Jesus') ascension,' I would look at it as the world having gotten the best of me and, instead, I'm trying to see it as, I guess, an 'appointed' time. Hopefully looking forward to Shavuot, and a jubilee of sorts.
Of course, it's very difficult to walk on things that I cannot see and you and @shittim, and those standing next to me...in silent lucidity... have been instrumental in getting me through this moment.
I dream of not being called from work at 1am.
