Prayer...

Prayer is not an attempt to change God's mind; real prayer is the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings with God. By it we build our relationship with Him; express our trust in Him; seek to know His mind on the decisions of life; submit to His will; and resist, in His name, the efforts of the devil to frustrate God's loving purposes in our lives.

Yes, prayer is a relationship with God. He says we can come boldly before His throne and present all kinds of requests, but as a child to a father- requests, not commands- otherwise He would be serving us like a genie. We present our requests, but He decides as a father what is best for us. But requests are only one prayer subject. Here is my prayer skeleton to put meat on the bones...

Address God- Let Him know this prayer is to Him alone.
Praise- Give God at least one compliment.
Others- Tell Him why others need Him.
Self- Tell Him why you need Him.
Forgiveness- Ask Him to forgive you as you have forgiven others.
Thank- Tell Him at least one thing you are thankful for.
Christ's name- whether you mention it in word or attitude, the bible says, whether in word or deed, we are to do all things in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen! I seek God's will through prayer, and the power and strength to carry it out

God, I offer myself to Thee, To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always.

oh Precious Prayer....
oh what a Saviour who comes to us on such intimate terms...

the pattern for prayer is given to all of us in 'The Lord's Prayer' -
we acknowledge His Holiness, Greatness, Power, and then comes requests, and then
the acknowledgement that everything belongs to Him..
this is the pattern that Daniel, Nehemiah, and David, followed, among others...

one of the most beautiful things that we both love about this prayer is the first two words,
'Our Father', it signifies that we are all a unit, one body in Him...

prayer, for many of us, whether we are laying upon our pillow or at different times all during the day,
we know what a precious gift and privilege it is to be able to address our Saviour in such a way,
it truly is a constant blessing and honor...

That part...........that is a very important part.....key words being "sharing" or "exchanging." For these two words reveal that we not only need to pray to God, we need to "listen" to God as well. Prayer is a two way communication....well, REAL PRAYER is.
