All the verses below disprove all the modern concepts of how and when we recieve the Holy Spirit. There is also a distiction of "Recieveing", "Baptized in" and "when" it is recieved.
(Luke 1:15 [AKJV])
For he [John the Baptist] shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(John 14:25-26 [AKJV])
These things have I spoken to you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you.
(John 20:21-22 [AKJV])
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be to you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, Receive you the Holy Ghost:
"Receive", receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit had already been given to them before the day of Penticost.
(Acts 1:4-5 [AKJV])
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, you have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
"Baptized"The word means "Immersed", which is different than given which they aready had. Jesus was "Immersed" in the Holy Spirit when John baptized Him in water. Jesus tells the disciples that they too will be baptized with the "Immersion" He was baptized with.
(Acts 1:8 [AKJV])
But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come on you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.
They had the Holy Spirit, but had no power.
(Acts 5:32 [UKJV])
And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to them that obey him.You have to "Obey God" in order to receive. Those who have the Holy Spirt are witnesses.
(Acts 8:14-18 [UKJV])
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
So just believing in Jesus does not get you the Holy Spirit. That is what the verse says, or is the verse wrong.
So the question is: does believing in Jesus just give us the indwelling? It certainly does not give us the Power because that was given by the laying on of hands, which is how I received it.So to recap. Jesus was the first to be immersed in the Holy Spirit and received power. The disciples had the Holy Spirit prior to Pentecost, when Jesus breathed upon them. You have to Obey God. They then received the Holy Spirit in Power and became witnesses. People who believed on the name of Jesus did not automatically receive the power of the Holy Spirit, but it was given through the laying on of hands.
All this is so much different than what the modern church teaches today.
