Marrieds can answer this one...do you remember proposing or being proposed to?
Was it anything special 'popping the question'? On bended knee? With a ring?
Who was asking the bride or the groom?
Was it a surprise?
Private or totally in public?

Did you answer yes or did you refuse at first?
How many times did you ask, or did you just kind of hint you were going to?
Did anything go wrong...?

How long was your engagement/betrothal?

Spill...

Propose: To state an intent, propound a plan of action, make a suggestion or declare a salute when drinking.

I do hereby solemnly propose to eat a large amount of tuna on bread for breakfast, with mayo and korean barbecue sauce.

I also propose a toast... to the toast. What, you think I'm just gonna eat it on plain, untoasted bread?

I first met my now wife in 1983. We've been married 3-1/2 years. You can't rush these things.........

I'd been staying in her house for some years as her late husband needed a lot of help. Myself and another believer stayed there. It worked out well.

Her husband passed away in 2011. I considered moving out as the other believer left to get married. We talked about it and it seemed OK to stay. People are less judgemental than they used to be. It was purely brother/sister relationship. The only time I went in her room was to vacuum.

A few years ago, my wife got very ill. She was in hospital for 3 weeks and nearly died. It was during Covid. Visiting was difficult and for the first week or so she was in ICU, hardly conscious. I realised then that I had a deep attachment for this woman that I'd known for so long. I proposed to her a few days after she came home.

The answer was, I thought, a bit odd. We'd been going out a lot, especially after I retired in 2016. She said that we'd never been on a date. Being about as dumb as they come when it comes to romance, I sat on that information for some time. She dropped a hint or two and finally it dawned on me. So I invited her on a formal date. Then another, flowers the whole bit. I proposed after a decent dinner. It was a romantic spot, but freezing that evening. We got engaged in June and married in October.

We are both in our 70's and we love being married. I could not ask for a better wife.

@Gideon Did she say she'd never been on a date, or just meaning, she'd never been on a date (with you!) lol

Did you kiss her to let her know how you felt.
What a sweet story.
Is she your first and last wife? Or was there someone prior to her. Just wondering.

There seem to be a lot of 'late' marriages on this site, although when I worked in retirement villages, there were never any weddings, probably because everyone had already downsized. I think it helps if someone already owns a house.

? It's been pretty quiet for this thread. I thought people would be a bit more open on how they got married, esp if it was in a church as Christian marriages would mostly be.

I gave you my best single guy answer. Nothing more I can do here.

Um I asked married people to answer, but ok. I don't suppose you ever proposed to someone, were rejected or were engaged and broke it off?

Cos that can happen too. Or maybe your parents told you the origins of their marriage. I asked my mum and she just said her friends and family set her and my dad up, it wasn't really my dad's idea, it was kind of expected of him, since he had a house, and needed a wife, back in those days. I don't know if it was romantic cos she wouldn't tell me and changed the subject, and when I asked my Dad he couldn't remember anything. All I know was they had a wedding in a church but never went to it otherwise.

Huh only one marriage proposal on this thread.

Ok what about ...promposals? I had never heard of them before I saw this teen movie and they had them.
It's asking out someone to be your date for the prom (or ball, or school dance)

Some were creative, like they had a song or dance for the date where they sang 'will you go to the prom with me?'
Or the words 'prom' were written in jam on a piece of toast or something.

I've definitely heard about attention getting proposals like ones on jumbotrons in sports games or planes flying flags with 'will you marry me Lanolin' on them - except of course, not with my name on it lol
