How did King David know the Messiah, who hadn’t even been born yet?


Psalm 110:1 NASB The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."
Two kings are mentioned: God and David’s Lord. David’s Lord sits at the right hand of God, which signifies a place of privilege, authority, and honor. Here it includes the promise that his enemies would be fully subdued.
It is evident that it can only refer, as the ancient Jews fully acknowledged, to the royal dignity, priesthood, victories, and triumphs of the MESSIAH.

This psalm is messianic, which Jesus himself confirms in Mark 12:35-37.
Mark 12:35-37 "And Jesus began to say, as He taught in the temple, "How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
36 "David himself said in the Holy Spirit, 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET."'
37 "David himself calls Him 'Lord '; so in what sense is He his son?" And the large crowd enjoyed listening to Him.

Matt. 22:41-45 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question:
42 "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said to Him, "The son of David."
43 He said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying,
44 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET "'?

First of all, David didn't have to [ physically ] "meet him face-to-face" to have 'known' him as Lord. Also, he could have seen Him in a vision and knew who He was. Otherwise, I have a 'theory' -- read the OP of this thread.
 
Jesus is both the “root” and the “offspring” of David (Revelation 22:16).
Since He was the “root,” the throne was His before David was born.
David merely sat upon the Eternal’s throne.

Secondly, since Jesus was David’s lawful fleshly Son, this same throne shall
once more become His right by inheritance, continuing David’s dynasty.

1“Now these be the last words of David.

5Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me
an [everlasting covenant], [ordered in all things, and sure]:


“And it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came unto Nathan,

an house for me to dwell in,


When thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers,

If he commit iniquity, I will chasten (him) with (the rod of men),
and with the stripes of the children of men:

Solomon is also only a type of who was to come: who came, and will come again: who is.

it's Christ's eternal throne that is forever established :)

Abraham saw the "Son of God" (our Lord Jesus Christ) in the flesh with 2 angels with Him. I think David did also.

"For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:" (Acts 2:25)

"I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." ( Psalm 16:8-11)

David read the word of God and they testify of Jesus.

John 5:39 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."

and maybe David wrote this.

Psalm 119:148 "My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word."

or maybe as the Father revealed it to Peter, He revealed it to David.

Matthew 16:16-17 "Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."
