I work in a man's world. Always have. In that world you must say what you have to say decidedly and clearly. I tend to say exactly what is on my mind. The thing is, in person people have the advantage of hearing the tone of your voice, which helps avoid misunderstandings much of the time. Online this is not so, is it?
I often type something the way it runs through my mind, but when I read it back, it seems far more harsh or arrogant than I would ever dare be, online or off. That's why you'll find a lot of edit lines on my posts and/or emoticons.
When I'm tired or pressed for time, I'm not always as cautious about this as I would like to be. I have had several people who have gotten to know me in these forums tell me that they were surprised to hear on mic in chat how soft spoken I really am.
Sometimes even things said as a joke can be misunderstood and seen as being passive aggressive. I want to be more mindful of this.
Set a watch, O Lord before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
(and my typing fingers....)
