Re: PURGATORY

No Contradiction

The Fundamentalist resistance to the biblical doctrine of purgatory presumes there is a contradiction between Christ’s redeeming us on the cross and the process by which we are sanctified. There isn’t. And a Fundamentalist cannot say that suffering in the final stage of sanctification conflicts with the sufficiency of Christ’s atonement without saying that suffering in the early stages of sanctification also presents a similar conflict. The Fundamentalist has it backward: Our suffering in sanctification does not take away from the cross. Rather, the cross produces our sanctification, which results in our suffering, because "[f]or the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness" (Heb. 12:11).

Hebrew 12 is talking about chastening. not purgatory at all. The Lord chasten His children like a parent chasten his children.

Is purgatory chasten people?

12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

My response for this subject will be bellow:

Nothing Unclean

Purgatory makes sense because there is a requirement that a soul not just be declared to be clean, but actually be clean, before a man may enter into eternal life. After all, if a guilty soul is merely "covered," if its sinful state still exists but is officially ignored, then it is still a guilty soul. It is still unclean.
Catholic theology takes seriously the notion that "nothing unclean shall enter heaven." From this it is inferred that a less than cleansed soul, even if "covered," remains a dirty soul and isn’t fit for heaven. It needs to be cleansed or "purged" of its remaining imperfections. The cleansing occurs in purgatory. Indeed, the necessity of the purging is taught in other passages of Scripture, such as 2 Thessalonians 2:13, which declares that God chose us "to be saved through sanctification by the Spirit." Sanctification is thus not an option, something that may or may not happen before one gets into heaven. It is an absolute requirement, as Hebrews 12:14 states that we must strive "for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord."

Sanctification by the Spirit ant the truth. not by purgatory at all.

2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

so Yes nothing unclean to go heaven, that why people need the blood of Jesus, they need Holy spirit to cleanse they sin.

So that we could be forgiven and be allowed to enter Heaven. Tell me, since you accepted Christ, do you still sin? The reason we still sin is because we are not perfect. Our flesh and our mind are still fallen. When we die, the flesh is gone, but our mind (our will) is still with us. So, how does this will become perfected? It becomes perfected through Christ. How this is done, we don't know. But we call the process "purgation" and the so called place, better put the state in which this process happens is called purgatory. Its for the saved alone. No one who isn't saved will be perfected.

Now you may ask, how long does this take? Doesn't the church teach you will be there for centuries? The answers are "we don't know" and "maybe, but more likely it doesn't take time...since we will be Christ and time is irrelevant." It may be instantaneous, but to our feeble minds the process may feel somewhat longer, since in this purgation Christ perfects us mind and soul. On the day of our resurrection, the perfect body will be supplied.

This is exactly what I am referring to in my writings. THE WRONG TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH. Purgatory is NOT mentioned in the Bible. It is all man made stories/teachings and the RCC confirms it in their Catechism. No wonder you are confused as you write that the answers are "we don't know" and "maybe" and that is what you accept as the Truth? The other thing is that "we will be Christ" is also farfetched. Nobody will receive that status. Would you rather believe in the church's teachings or would you rather listen to what the Bible teaches? This is a very basic logical question. Who do you think is benefiting from this teaching? The RCC of course. As long as they get money for the sinners who are in "Purgatory" they (RCC) are happy. Who will not be happy if she gets money for nothing because she taught it and is still teaching a lie. If your heart was not right on earth and did not accept Jesus Christ in your life, how will this so called spirit ever change his heart, by the way it is dead and buried below some soil on earth. Even the people who is alive today who does not accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour will every enter the gates of the Kingdom of God. How can the RCC teach that the dead spirits who are in purgatory or that will go to purgatory, receive that favour. You know, people who accepts to ANY church's teachings that is not in line with God's Word, need to re-examine their faith for it needs a serious maintenance and service according to the Best service plan there is, God's Word, and nothing else. The problem nowadays are that people like to have their ears warmed up to what they want to hear. Nobody likes to hear what he know is NOT right and it is pointing fingers to him. Are you happy with everything that is been taught in your church and can you honestly tell me that you believe everything they teach you, or are you also one that has been taught, you never question the church? Do you never doubt anything they teach you? If you do, you have some serious engine problems and you know what that means. You won't get far.

Which bible? the catholic church have extra seven books.

This was the question I asked once to a Pastor:

"Which version of the old testament Jesus used? the greek or the Hebrew?

He answered the Greek.... What do you think?

The Bible which has been compiled by King James' instruction, the first compiled book that contains 66 books which reveals everything that we need to know from the start of the creation to the end of it and also revealing God and His Salvation plan to save mankind by sending His Son Jesus Christ and to reveal Satan with all his doings. Sure, there are many other scriptures and scroll that could contain truth, but there are many that don't. The Bible has been used for centuries now and many people have tried to prove it wrong, but failed. I am also sure that the compilation of the Bible was done in the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide them which scriptures to include and which not. So, to answer your question, the original King James Version of the Bible and no other newer translations, as the newer translations contain many changes to suite the modern trends.

so
Yes nothing unclean to go heaven, that why people need the blood of Jesus, they need Holy spirit to cleanse they sin.

To accept Purgatory because it makes sense because ..... it is Catholic theology. The person who has accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour will be cleansed from ALL SINS, as that is what the Bible teaches us, and not some church's theology.
If Jesus said to the people that their sins are forgiven, they got healed right away and did not have to go to some purgatory to be cleansed first. The same way that Jesus died on the cross for us, and at that moment took ALL sin of mankind onto His shoulders, anybody who accepts Jesus in their heart today will be saved. Obviously, the person need to continue to keep Jesus in his heart and as he carries on in life sinning, his sins will be forgiven AFTER he has repented and asked God, AND NOT THE CHURCH, to forgive his sins. That is where grace comes in. God will give us the grace to be stronger each day as we walk in His footsteps and not to sin. He knows our hearts if we are honest or not. The honest believer will be cleansed every time he goes onto his knees and pray and asked that his sins be forgiven. He will not charge you any fee, AS SOME CHURCHES DO, to forgive your sins as His Son already died on the cross for us. So the Purgatory teaching is totally against the reason why Jesus died on the cross for us and if a teaching is not from God, it is from Satan. It is as simple as that. It is the same when you say that you believe in God but also believe in evolution, as evolution theories cuts God totally out of the creation picture. Purgatory is exactly the same.

Luke 8:13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

Hebrews 3:8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,
Why are you quoting these texts? Do you agree or disagree?

Yup, I agree. We as a people, ordinary citizen must know to tell the different between God teaching and man pretend to be god teaching.

Purgatory have a history of commercial. It is a business hide behind religion.

As long as endorse by Pope that must be right.

It Illogical when former Pope endorse opposite teaching with recent pope.

I heard Pope before II Vatican council believe there is no salvation outside RCC.

Now Muslim is save.

If Pope Infallible than why recent Pope teach Muslim save, and Pope before II vatican council said not.

It prove Pope is merely fallible.

Why our catholic brother and sister accept illogical teaching?

There is no purgatory because a person will either be with Christ or the lower parts of the earth when they die, which the Bible says to die is to be with Christ and even Christ told the thief he will be with Him that day,and the wicked shall go to the lower parts of the earth.

The Bible teaches that when a person dies, his body is in a sleep until Jesus comes again. If, what you are saying is true, then it means that every person is judged the moment he/she dies, and that, according to the Bible, is not correct. Jesus is currently busy with the judgement and when He is finished with it, will He come to collect the saved. His coming will be unexpectedly like the thief in the night. The fact that Jesus, who is the Son of God, did forgive the thief that was crucified with Him and said to him that he will be in heaven with Jesus Christ, but it is not to say that he went up on the same day, as Jesus Christ was still in the grave for another three days. Where was the sinner then, in heaven?? Maybe here the church stepped in and put the Purgatory doctrine in place. The translation of the Bible here was also questioned as the comma is believed to be in the wrong place and could have been written "and Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee today, thou shalt be with me in paradise", and not "and Jesus said unto him, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." Luk 23:43 as it is quoted now. Although some might want to make a lot of fuss about this and use it to twist the truth, the truth namely that the thief will be with Jesus Christ in paradise, is true. But to use this now to argue that all people who are saved now go to heaven straight away, is far from the truth and non-Biblical.

The RCC teaches their members not to question the church and if the church want to change anything, it is their prerogative. As the RCC accepts the pope as the head of the church, which in their eyes, is on the same level as Jesus Christ, he (the pope) has the right to do it. That is why they can teach many things that is not true and get away with it as the members were brainwashed not to question the church and to accept what the pope is saying. The members are just blinded by all these teachings. Remember, Satan is behind all this as he is the master deceiver. The Sabbath change is one of the main lies from the RCC where they have changed God's Word, 4th Commandment, the Sabbath (Saturday) keeping to Sunday (Worshiping of the Sun God) worshiping. It was a very subtle change that took nearly 2000 years but today it has become the norm and everybody thinks that Sunday worshiping is correct and that the Sabbath is the Sunday. So has Purgatory taken its place in the doctrines. Look at their other teachings ie Baptism, etc. and you will find a lot of hidden lies. It is not just the RCC but other churches as well. Many of the doctrines of the RCC have been taken over word for word by the Protestant churches and that is very scary, to say the least. That is why, everyone of us who wants to be with God one day, need to search for the truth in all earnestly and God will give you the light at the right time, as He knows your heart.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, Purgatory is “a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God's grace, are not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.” To summarize, in Catholic theology Purgatory is a place that a Christian’s soul goes to after death to be cleansed of the sins that had not been fully satisfied during life. Is this doctrine of Purgatory in agreement with the Bible? Absolutely not!

Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins (Romans 5:8). Isaiah 53:5 declares, “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Jesus suffered for our sins so that we could be delivered from suffering. To say that we must also suffer for our sins is to say that Jesus’ suffering was insufficient. To say that we must atone for our sins by cleansing in Purgatory is to deny the sufficiency of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus (1 John 2:2). The idea that we have to suffer for our sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation.

For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). Notice that this does not say "away from the body, in Purgatory with the cleansing fire." No, because of the perfection, completion, and sufficiency of Jesus' sacrifice, we are immediately in the Lord's presence after death, fully cleansed, free from sin, glorified, perfected, and ultimately sanctified.

You ignore the fact that you die imperfect. You aren't perfect until you enter the Kingdom of Heaven. So, the question becomes when is our mind or soul perfected? We know we will receive a perfect body from God at the resurrection. However, we still die with an imperfect mind that still rattles at its cage and willingly gives into sin. Purgatory is the doctrinal answer. Evidence of it is found in 2nd Maccabees and in Tobit.

The moment you are born again, you have been washed by the blood of Jesus and every stain is removed. Every sin is forgiven, your spirit is clean. BUT your mind for that matter, needs to be renewed according to the spirit. Hence why we are to walk according to the spirit and not the flesh. The flesh will not tell you the truth of who you really are and what God has done for you. That's why Paul pushed for us to renew our minds, it's vital that we do. Purgatory = lack of faith in what Jesus has done and that it is not sufficient - but you will deny it means that, i'm sure of it.

Just guessing but the person who started this post is probably a dutch protestant afrikaner? lol I mean dont they believe that god gave them south africa because they won battles against docile natives with no weapons, and racial segregation. I dont think this guy can criticize anyone elses church until he fixes the problems in his own.

Purgatory means to be purge.

John 19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Isaiah 1:25 I will turn my hand against you; I will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities.

Luke 2:35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

If I had did wrong to someone, Whatever I had done, It must be done to me, in order to show me the harm that I have done and to teach me not to ever do this again. It is like an eye for an eye, and or to reap what I had sown. This is the method that the Holy spirit will use to purify us. The old testament way is to be put to death without having the chance of a real teacher to train us. So just endure the chastisement that the Lord giving us, but if He isn't chastising you, He isn't treating you as a son. Some Catholic leaders is still perceiving the scriptures by the old way and that is by the natural.

To begin with y'all need to know what Purgatory actually is, as opposed to what you assume it is.

The Scripture quoted in the quote is 2 Maccabees 42-46.

Purgatory is not a get out of Hell free card, as once you are in Hell you are there forever. What Purgatory is is a place of cleansing for the elect to purge them of any lingering attachment to sin before they are admitted to Paradise.

When he had by HIMSELF PURGED OUR SINS HE SAT down on the right hand of Majesty (power)...JESUS has already paid the price and purged humanities sin!

You are falling into the trap again. You are quoting your church's doctrine and you defend her with everything you have, and you IGNORE what the Bible teaches us. The text you quote here does not prove for one split second that purgatory exists. Job's faith was tested by Satan because God ALLOWED him to, and NOT to confirm to people that a purgatory exist. Another fact is that Job was ALIVE when this was done and NOT in a purgatory. It just shows you how the power of deception works, which of course is from Satan and NOT from God. Any other texts that you would like to quote to prove your church's purgatory theory?

You are right that God cannot be mocked and a man will reap what he sows. That is why I am very careful in what I am writing and believe you me, I know what will happen to me if I fail in spreading the TRUTH. The MAIN difference between me and all other pastors/ministers are, that I don't get paid for my teaching whilst the others ALL get paid to teach their church's doctrines. That fact alone is HUGE as they are not prepared to forfeit their income to spread the TRUTH.
