I think the process started among the apostles; Peter, for example, recognized Paul’s writings as Scripture. But I think that the Church Fathers (Origen, Clement of Rome, Ignatius, Polycarp, Irenaeus, Hippolytus and others)played a major role in the selection of books.

This was happening in the apostolic churches while the apostles were alive. Paul aksed Timothy to bring along "the books and the parchments". Peter was acquainted with all of Paul's epistles (51% of the New Testament). By the 2nd century, there was already a list of almost all the books of the NT (the canon of the NT). God was guiding Christians to retain the true books and discard the false gospels and epistles (primarily from the Gnostics).

This page says John, as the last living apostle, gathered the books and letters we know as the NT together.

What do you mean?
I was hoping to answer your original question, but I may not have understood it properly.

Could you please clarify or expand upon the question you put forth in your OP?

The New Testament was all written by eight different men in the years following the birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. Three of those men were eye witnesses (Matthew, Peter and John) and two were brothers of Jesus (James and Jude). Many believe the writing of the different books and letters was complete by the time John wrote the book of Revelation, which would then be the last book written. The page I linked to postulates that John collected the books and letters, since he was the last living apostle, and was uniquely qualified to canonize the Scriptures, being of the Aaronic (Levitical priest) blood line.

One thing is that even the documents that may not have been written as letters to specific congregations, were still shared (as do the letters seem to have been also) with the rest of the known Christians in several countries. It couldn't have been too many years until almost all the house churches had copies of many of these writings. Putting them all together in book-form (In those days, it would have just been a "collection" much as the Jews have of their own individual congregational writings today.) would seem to follow naturally. Bibles came along several hundred years later.

Thanks for replying it but if Saint John collect it
Why there are 20 false book talk about childood of jesus and period didn't mention in bible

If it pronounced that new testament was collected i think it will block way for apocryphian book

Finally I don't know if it wrong to discuss like this topic and God forgive me

It means that the process of collecting is unknown and unimportant

Pretty much. LOL It's like thinking we have to know who rode the donkey as he delivered copies of John's Revelation to the 7 churches on that 50 mile circular road in Ancient Turkey.

There are untold numbers of books written since then, but they are not considered Scripture/inspired. The deuterocanonical texts, what we know as the Apocrypha, were never considered inspired Scripture until the Roman Catholic Church ADDED them to the canon. Click!

Why would a donkey be involved when Christ sent seven angels to seven churches? Or don't you believe that that actually and literally happened?

Just as an angel appeared to Peter to release him from prison, angels took the messages to those seven churches and delivered them.
