From Malcolm W. Nance - The Plot to Destroy Democracy (pp. 190-191). Hachette Books. Kindle Edition:

The concept of the West engaging in a clash of civilizations was deeply believed by Osama bin Laden. The 9/11 attacks in New York City, Washington, DC, and western Pennsylvania, as well as the 7/7 attacks in London and the 3/14 attacks in Madrid, Spain; the rise of the “Islamic caliphate” of the Islamic state of Iraq; and Syrian terrorist groups were born of the belief that the West must be forced to embrace their inner xenophobia.

The efforts were in place to move the terrorist struggle from low-grade regional attacks to a broad global struggle where every Muslim would be called upon to defend the religion. Bin Laden’s call for the clash of civilizations would intimidate all Westerners, Christians and Muslim alike.

He sought to make them live in fear that a Muslim terrorist would kill them and their children while they slept comfortably in their beds at night. Bin Laden’s insane belief lies in the fact that he understood the inherent bigotry of the West.

In fact, it was necessary to make Christians view all Muslims as evil. It was critical to his plan of a worldwide clash of civilizations between Islam and the world.

It required the demonization of every Muslim man, woman, and child. Hence, his disciples could say, did we not tell you that Christians hate us and were the actual evil?

"inherent bigotry of the West" ???

bigotry
noun
big·ot·ry | \ ˈbi-gə-trē \
plural bigotries
Definition of bigotry
1: obstinate or intolerant devotion to one's own opinions and prejudices : the state of mind of a bigot

perhaps it was a poorly written statement by the author. if not, mirriam-webster clarifies that it was/is bin laden and his ilk who are steeped in bigotry.

Why did you leave out the more relevant definition?

2: acts or beliefs characteristic of a bigot

racial bigotry

That's besides the point - you are challenging the authors' statements of "the West must be forced to embrace their inner xenophobia" and "the inherent bigotry of the West".

i merely noted the author's statement:

Bin Laden’s insane belief lies in the fact that he understood the inherent bigotry of the West.

so bin laden had an "insane belief" and somehow the author ties that to "the fact that he understood the inherent bigotry of the West".

it could be that bin laden had an "insane belief" [period] ... which is more on point when it comes to bin laden.

Islam has been spread by the sword almost from the beginning. When Muhammed realized that was the way to get adherents he began a jihad that hasn't stopped to this day. No,not all Muslims are "evil",there are secular Muslims who believe in a "soft" form of Islam. And they are considered infidels with the rest of us. The way their messiah is coming back is when they subdue non Muslims, namely Christians and Jews, but anyone that does not adhere to the teaching of the Koran is an infidel. An infidel is either a slave or killed. I'd say that's pretty radical.

Bin Laden was a CIA operative...Now there there is no need to argue.
Get yer arguing/thinking cap on UGene.

U.S. government officials and a number of other parties maintain that the U.S. supported only the indigenous Afghan mujahideen. They deny that the CIA or other American officials had contact with Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, let alone armed, trained, coached or indoctrinated them. Many American scholars and reporters have called the idea of a CIA-backed Al Qaeda "nonsense",[10] "sheer fantasy",[11] and "simply a folk myth."[12]

Okay not to much thinking on that one, of course they have to deny it, that would mean it was an inside job.

Mr. Nance hits on it right here.
