The face to face was with Moses.

After the burning bush of course. God wasn't angry then. Moses was angry when he struck the rock. Then God got a bit mad with Moses for not doing what He said which was to SPEAK to the rock.

But you know what? The Israelites complained an awful lot. They had the almighty God on their side, providing their every need and yet still they complained.
