I read some of the posts and just one thing comes to my mind. I don't understand why believers are so divided in their belief?! Wasn't there ONE JESUS that came to this earth? Great picture we are painting for the non-believers.

I think this is the best we can do.

Otherwise the unbelievers might get a one-sided picture painted from the many false prophets that rise, and shall deceive many.

In the circumstances I think some of us are doing a pretty good job

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

I see it in more than one place "Come up hither". And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud And the seventh angel sounded (last trumpet )

Rv11;11And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

And as for Matt 24 not in them words “Caught up” but still relevant to the words

Mark13;27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Matt24:30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect
from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Unless you are thinking Matt24 is not relevant to Jesus coming to get us.

Let me know
I'm talking specifically about the term for rapture as it appeared in the Bible, Rev 11:12 has a different Greek rook and the Latin term for rapture isn't in the vulgate in that verse.

Interestingly enough the Thessalonians chapter has more of a 'grabbed by force' sense to it while the Revelation one is more of a 'drawn up or called' sense.

Regardless, my only purpose in this thread was to say where the word 'rapture' came from. Angelia can't find it because its not Greek nor is it English. It comes to our theology via a Latin term.

I agree with Peter on this.

I'd also like to add that it IS a good picture we're painting when people see that we think about our beliefs and are not just one homogeneous glob of ideology.

Example: I believe in ONE. You believe in TWO. I tell the non-believer about ONE. You tell him about TWO. So what does he believe in?

Well I guess that's how a "new belief" is born.

Thanks for that JGPS I understand what you’re saying.

Concerning Matt24 and Jesus coming in the clouds and the angels gathering the elect ,what are you thinking about this.

More times than not --- he believes in 'THREE' - or 'SIX' - or 'SEVENTEEN' - or ... ;) :p

Seriously - it is the responsibility of each of us to make sure we understand the truth properly before we tell anyone...

( "food for thought" )

:)

That was my point that I will tell him ONE, someone else will tell him TWO and he will believe in like TWELVE.

Say WHATT????

It's tertiary doctrine, why does it matter that we have different views?

What does this have to do with non-beleivers? All we need to tell them is the Gospel, and we agree with what the Gospel is, generally at least.

A non-believer (Hindu) asked me why do we (believers) debate on things like the title of this thread.

To be honest I have no particular view on the matter. I only joined because a question was asked to which I knew the answer :)

Ah, that is a good reason.

I would say for recreation :D

Or you could say that its becasue we want to know, but cannot know, but really want to know, so we say we know :)

But personally, just for recreation.

I think we can't expect people to agree on everything...especially when the Scriptures are silent on some issues. The important thing is that we all stand united on the Gospel of Jesus Christ no matter where we are in terms of denominations. Gospel is a part of theology yes...but Theology is NOT to be equated with Gospel.

It's a Latin phrase, not Greek. Arguing back using Greek is fruitless. Arguing with Latin would probably not be very useful either, but if you really wanted too I could try.

That is where rapture is in in the Vulgate. It's the only place it is.

This does not have rapture in it, it is only inferred that this is related to the rapture.
The word Rapture is a man made word for the even i posted in scripture. You will not find the word rapture in the bible, but the the ones who understand what the scripture is saying knows what it's talking about. There also another scripture of this exact same event somewhere in revelations

I was relating “thinking outside the box” as in preaching the gospel on this website not interpreting scripture

But if you want to do mudslinging I am that interested sorry
How did I do mudslinging?

The Lord does come to us, His coming isn't always a physical manifestation as in the 2 coming will be:

Psalm 65:9
[SUP]9 [/SUP]You visit the earth and water it,
You greatly enrich it;
The river of God is full of water;
You provide their grain,
For so You have prepared it.

That's not my method of hermeneutics and sense "thinking outside the box" it is yours, there can be no rational discussion that involves interpreting scripture with scripture and obvious clear understanding of context and cultural impact on what as clearly been written.

Thinking outside the box may be go to do in a worldly circumstance, in business, etc. but not for receiving revelation from the Word.

Besides, I don't think you'd ever change you mind or seriously think over my view. Why? because you don't directly answer my questions.
That whole statement had a slight smell of mudslinging to it

I tried to read it with different tones, in different contexts, different ways of expressions, 3 and 4 times I read it a different way

And it still had a slight smell of mudslinging to it.
