My dog had injured her left leg the other day. The vet said she tore her acl and will need surgery to fix it but there's a bigger problem. She may have tumors in her left hip and will need full hip surgery.

I didn't think I'd be having these problems with her already. She's only 9.

I'm so sad.

I wont be able to afford hip and leg surgery for her. That is going to be extremely expensive. But I don't want to lose her.

Sunshine will be seeing an orthopedic on thurs to take more x-rays and to determine just how bad it is and if the tumors are cancerous

i dont want want to go through this again

i lost my previous dog in 2005 and I still cry over him 11 years later. I'm not ready to lose Sunshine too.

I can relate to what you have written. I lost my puppy too years ago.

I'm not a pet person so I wasn't going to comment... But thought I'd at least say U'll be in my prayers..

I'm really sorry for both of you. This is why my wife and I both swear there will never be another animal in our lives.

I am so sad to read about your injured dog. I have had dogs all my life. They are all a part of me. At 9 years old, your dog has some age on him. Will he suffer during surgery? Is surgery necessary if such a painfull event will extend his life only two or three years depending on his health and breed. Think first of his welfare. Dogs are very special: they all need our love, everyday.
Best Wishes.

We are never ready to lose our fur babies. I wasn't ready to lose Tequila, and I'm still not ready, but it's over and done.. :(

Surgery is expensive, and stressful on both the animal and it's owner.. 9 is actually pretty old for a dog, and rather often they have hip problems. Don't let her suffer. And don't make her go through surgery just so you won't lose her. I could have kept Tequila on steroids and medicine the rest of her life, but I've been through that myself with my back and needing meds and steroids just to move. I didn't want that for Tequila, so I chose to end her suffering. I know it's hard but it's the most humane thing you can do for her. Like my vet told me, "letting her go even though it hurts, is the biggest act of love and compassion you could ever do for her". And that's verbatim.

*hugs*

I will ask the orthopedic on Thurs what he thinks Sunshine's life expectancy is. Sunshine hasn't had any "health" problems besides her hips/bones which I don't consider health problems, just injuries (like me). But, today when Sunshine got home from the vet, she was hyper and happy and wagging her tail and Trying to run. I forced her to try and relax and lay down and gave her a treat to have her lay down.

First step is taking her to the orthopedic where she'll be sedated and they'll be taking a few x-rays of her hips to see if what my vet felt is actually tumors but, either way, unless God intervenes somehow, she will need hip surgery. I don't know about recovery time but, if her left hip is really bad, there's a possibility to amputate her leg too, but, there's a lot of what ifs and a lot to do w/ it so, the orthopedic will be able to give us more answers then the vet could.

I'm just nervous.

My previous dog who died at age 15. He had congestive heart disorder and when he was 9, the vet said he had that and that he'd only live another year. Well, Teddy lived another 5 years in good health before his heart started giving up on him and Teddy was similar in size to Sunshine and he basically told me that he was ready to go. He looked at me w/ longing eyes and I knew what he meant but, it took me 2 days to give in to what he wanted.

But, with Sunshine, today she was so happy, lively, hyper, looked so happy. I knew she had a will to live but, yes, i know it depends on what the orthopedic says too but, just looking at Sunshine now, it's looking like she's telling me, "I'm not ready to go yet, I'm ready to live and fight" --- That's what her eyes and the look on her face was telling me. She was smiling/happy.

We'll see.... I'm not happy and am very nervous about Thursday. I'm going to try and get out of work to be able to go there with her as for right now, my parents were just planning on taking her.

Know what's funny. Until today, I never heard that 9 is old for a dog. I always heard that dogs are old when they hit age 12.
I understand about not wanting them to be in pain and everything. 2 years ago, Sunshine tore her right acl. It took her close to 6 months to fully recover from that But, during the entire recovery time, she was on heavy meds for pain and she was just happy-go-lucky and had a great attitude the entire time. And as I stated before, since she hurt her other leg on Friday (now knowing anything about her hip), all weekend, again, she's been so happy, having a smile on her face, not complaining one bit or crying but just happy.

I read my dogs. I can tell from their facial expressions what their feeling (maybe not understanding 100%) but, knowing. Sunshine is very intuitive.

It's different if the animal is showing pain beforehand and is giving hints. Sunshine is a fighter and as i stated, she came through her previous surgery w/ flying colors and always had a smile on her face despite what was going on. I think once she loses that smile and happy attitude, then i'll know but as of now. she is still flying high. I think she has a lot left to live for. She's not ready to go, otherwise, like my previous dog, she would be telling me.

Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31 v 24.

Willie, where's the love? Would you forgo having the love of a child just because they could die before you? What about dear friends that you have lost, does the pain of losing a friend you loved put up a wall to you being friends with someone else? To be honest, I'm picking up witnesses' to a stronghold in you... there's been an edge in your responses elsewhere that suddenly make sense by your declaration here that you won't love another again because it hurts too much to lose them. I say this in love and with affection, and pray Lord may this stronghold be torn down! Love hurts, Jesus proved that, but He didn't climb down off the cross and say naw that hurt too much I'll never go thru that again. If He had to I'm more than sure that He would. Because He understands that love is worth it even after it's become hurtful. No matter what creatures we are talking about.

God's promises to the lion and the lamb apply to the pooches and kitties too. All creation groans for it. We have been tasked with caring for all creation until then. Whether it's hurtful, inconvenient, or as you once said, only for entertainment.

A wall of hurt is impeding the flow of God's love, my friend and brother. Maybe it's time to shine some light and do something about it.

Hugs bro

Yes, we all hope that Sunshine's health will improve.
