If he is Fredo the US would do well to let him live.
That seems to be what they're thinking reading between the lines of their statements and Trump's. If he were purely like Fredo a kinda lovable dummy it would make sense, but the problem is you know the mahdi cult twist where he was still actively an ayatollah before the revolution and is also culpable in the massacre and other evil deeds of the regime.
Well all of them are, hence the mahdi cult twist. The reference to him being viewed as the Fredo of the sons that are ayatollahs is that he's the second son and kinda dumb. It's interesting too that the eldest son Mostafa, the favorite was not picked, it is thought he perhaps perished in the earlier opening strikes but has not yet been confirmed or denied as far as I am aware but perhaps this is a subtle sign that the fog of war rumors about his demise may be true since Fredo is taking over.
