So, at Jullianna's suggestion, here's a new poll, done from the male point-of-view.

The question?
How important is it to you to express your emotions and how you feel to your significant other?

just remember fellas...too much emotion can be found as a weakness...there's a time and place

LOL.

Well... I like for a guy to express emotion--I would want and require that, seeing as I'm a very emotional person myself.

BUT, a guy who cries more than I do (which isn't often) might be a little hard to take...

When you marry someone the two become one. To hold back your heart cripples that union.

Well, shoot...that rules me out. I was just watching 'Bambi'...and well, you know...

For the most part, that's correct, but there are some things in some situations that are better left 'held back'.

Nuke, it would depend on at which part... and for how long you cried. For example, if you cried at the part where Bambi's mother is shot, that's understandable.

If you're still crying the next day... and you've already seen the movie 10 times... weeelllll... that might raise an eyebrow.

But, in all seriousness, I agree with Danuck--holding back can greatly hinder your relationship (but with proper respect to things such as holding back anger and expressing it within reason, etc.)

Well, if something is expressed, it should be done 'within reason'. One of our biggest flaws is that we humans have issues with self-control.

But, I argue that on occasion, sometimes it's more beneficial to hold back emotion then to always let it out...again, 'within reason'.

Does rolling around on the floor laughing while trying to maintain bladder control after reading this thread count as an emotion?

Personally, I think sharing emotions is part of having a mature relationship.

Dont get me wrong, I dont expect a man to sit down with me every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and talk about his feelings. But I do expect him to be able to talk to me about his feelings or attitudes towrds certain issues as they arise. How would I, as a wife, be able to provide you with the emotional support and nurturing that you need at that time, if I do not know what is wrong with you. Thats one of the reasons to have a companion. To share inner most thoughts and feelings.

Well, it's nice that I can help you in that regard. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got Battlefield: Bad Company 2 running, and I've got to finish this level...

Well, often women expect guys to be mind readers, so perhaps you can read our minds? (grin)

All kidding aside, I agree.

I like your post. I feel the same way about sharing feelings and emotions. I always share with people whats going on with me. I would not want to marry someone that did not communicate openly with me. I feel that is what makes a relationship or marriage strong. If more couples communicated with their partners more they would see their relationship strengthen.
