The evening and the morning were the first day. Sabbath is from evening to evening. Sunset to sunset.
To keep the Sabbath, God tells us to put away all your labor and anything that you do during the work week your school work. This is a time to spend with God in nature and with those who are assisting others who are of need. Spending time with family, watching our conversations. Do we honor God in our conversation?
Spending time reading your Bible and sharing Christ with others in the Word. Its about a real relationship with God dwelling on Him as our Creator. You see this was and still is the aim of the enemy to dividing us from our Creator...Listening to good sacred music. Take a break from the I-Phone. Don't buy or sell. Prepare all things that need to be done through the week.Any thing that has to do with an exchange of money..common everyday transactions. Not legalism.
If you must purchase a need for someone..its good...the sick needs care..these are life threatening jobs that affect lives so work must be done to care for these people...But work that pays your bills..common work shouldn't be done. These must come from the heart. But if you can get someone to take your place in the field of nursing..its ok...
But its lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Even Jesus healed on the Sabbath Day. The keep is are we in harmony with God's Word. Once again its about loving God and our fellow man. If we see someone in need..we should do our best to help in the ways we can. The Sabbath is a focus on others and not self. Esteem others higher than yourself. As we should have a habit.
This verse sums it up concerning how to keep the Sabbath Holy. If thou turn away thou foot from the Sabbath from doing thy pleasure on my holy day and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable and shall honor Him not doing thy own ways and finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words.
Then shall thy delight thyself in the LORD and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. Isaiah 58:13, 14.
If you are really seeking, the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth. Don't take my word for it..please search for yourself. I can only tell you what I know. God says, If you seek me with your whole heart, you will find me. Many go down the wide path of life. But the narrow way is rarely . traveled. At the end of the day its the Word of God that counts and not the doctrines of men.
God has principles and not a lot of do's and don't. The reason He tells us to follow His principles is so we can live and not die.
I, personally, don't think God really gives a hoot which day of the week you choose to back off the daily grind, slow down, and spend the whole time period resting, and more earnestly and with deliberate concentration, reflect upon your relationship with Jesus. But I don't think it should be a haphazard, catch as catch can, undertaking.
I just happen to think it was intended to be a scheduled time with at least a degree of patterned routine to it.... though not a practiced and religious performance of ritual. It's family time with Daddy, and should be valued as such.

The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week; commencing at sundown Friday and ending at sundown Saturday.
If it is observed under compulsion to build or maintain a relationship with God, it is of NO VALUE.
The ten commandments is NOT the only place that the Sabbath is mentioned.
In Hebrew the word מוֺעֲד mo ad', which is translated as feast, means appointment or appointed time.
If you make an appointment with a friend to meet at a certain time and place; and your friend doesn't show up, it will probably not end the friendship; but you will be disappointed. [double take intended]
In Leviticus Chapter 23, God has appointed several times at which He has stated His desire to meet with His people.
IMO If some of His people elect not to show up, God is not likely to break off the friendship; but HE is probably disappointed.
Some people believe that the appointed times pertain only to the old covenant; but,Zec 14:3-19

clearly indicates that at least the appointed time of tabernacles will be mandatory during Jesus' millennial reign.
IMO this indicates that these are likely still times at which God still desires to meet with His people.
The Sabbath is the first and IMO the most important of the appointed times. of Leviticus 23.
IMO If it is observed legalistically under compulsion of Law, God will be just as disappointed as if we don't show up.
If we observe the appointed times because we are persuaded that God is pleased with our doing so; then I believe that God is far more pleased with us than if we don't.

hebrews 3&4 are the believer's rest.
"day of rest" is basically replaced by "person" ...IOW our sabath "day" is every day. The Day thinggy is still has "lingering benefits" in that PHYSICALLY you need a day in 7 to recoup,as does the mind need rest and geets that rest when you sleep.
2 distict covenants. Levitical/Judah.
Most people on this site I believe think that the Sabbath came with the giving of the 10 Commandments but if you go back to Genesis when God created the heavens and the earth on the 7th day He rested from all His work and spent that first Sabbath if you will with Adam and Eve. I wish I could have been there and been a part of that very first day of rest even though in the Genesis story they didn't call it that. However, when the commandments were given to Moses on the Mt. Sinai the 4th commandment does mention God as the creator tying the commandment back to creation.
There is no other day that has been hallowed, blessed, sanctified, listed as a sign between God and man than the 7th day Sabbath. Those are my thoughts in answer to your question.... I have not read any of the other posts yet but plan to once I have posted this.
God asked us to take time and spend with Him every week so originally I believe it was set up to fellowship directly with God weekly taking that special time to spend just with Him.... I know my daughter and I try and get together on Sundays more so in the summer and spend mother/daughter time together and it is very special.....I think God had the same thing in mind....
I could not help but come back. I felt I neglected to tell you that I live "Sabbath" everyday of my life. Most of my days are spent in His presence worshiping him or reading His word. Why do I need a specific "day"? What more could I do?
It's really a day to "not do." Have you noticed that about the only thing we are told to labor for is "His rest?"

Christians better sort this one out. The consequences could be dire.

Then I call all my Hebrew Roots friends over, for a barbecue.

I love the Sabbath.
It's a wonderful day.

That was probably a lesson by God to show how harsh the law can be.
The new biggest command now is to love. Which would mean the old man would be able to continue gathering sticks. Even on a Sabbath day.
Jesus even said to the Pharisees that about pulling a servant or an ox out of the well showing that above all to have love. Those in Exodus did not have such reasoning and were doing what was the law yes. But God is Holy.
What can you do on the Sabbath?
Now there are some things that are always okay to do on the Sabbath that the Scribes and Pharisees in Yahushua's day would think forbidden:

Luke 14:5 (NKJV) Then He answered them, saying, "Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?" 6 And they could not answer Him regarding these things.
People, God is just asking for 1 day of the week for you to show Him some love, respect and recognition which will only be good for your very soul and life anyway. He's not saying that we should not do things on the Sabbath day. He's just saying that you can chill out then if you want to and letting us do it in His name for Him. When you look at it like that, you start wishing that everyday was a Sabbath day.

decreed and made law and inforced, that Sunday would be observed as the Roman day of rest:[5]

[8] The fact that the canon had to be issued at all is an indication that adoption of Constantine's decree of 321 was still not universal, not even among Christians. It also indicates that Jews were observing the Sabbath on the Saturday.

yahweh called the 7th day a day of rest from the very start, and his people did also. all the time.
