Interesting topic.... There is a love song I must have listened to hundreds of times over several decades. When the Lord saved saved me at the ripe age of 55, I suddenly realized that verse 3 can only be about meeting the Lord Jesus Christ. I came to tears.

And so it was that I came to travel
Upon a road that was thorned and narrow
Another place, another grace
Would save me
It's Neil Diamiond's Play Me

I'm glad you were saved @dkontne

I always wonder when my dad will be saved or if he'll be saved.

Music is used to control. The hippie movement was about destroying civilization. By design, everything is. Who is the god of this world? 911 didn't start 'conspiracy theories'. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood, but spiritual wickedness.

Good question. Hopefully, we’ll find out here in this thread.

I think the correlation between Satan and music lyrics that promote immortality is obvious, and the correlation between Christ and lyrics that promote godliness is obvious, so the question becomes what about lyrics in between?

I actually have a playlist of "secular" songs which reflect spiritual teaching
I find songs like feel so real by Steve arrington and land of make-believe by bucks fizz
Remarkable
Thats what people said about 'I Don't Know How to Love Him'....
Yet does this really reflect anything 'spiritual'?
...
I don't know how to love him.
What to do, how to move him.
I've been changed, yes really changed.
In these past few days, when I've seen myself,
I seem like someone else.
I don't know how to take this.
I don't see why he moves me.
He's a man. He's just a man.
And I've had so many men before,
In very many ways,
He's just one more.
Should I bring him down?
Should I scream and shout?

Should I speak of love,
Let my feelings out?.....

Need we go on, I think its clear where it is going with this.......

Yes, we need to go on, because it is not clear where it is going.
The lyrics seem to reflect the thoughts of the woman in John 4,
whom the narrative left while asking (in v.29), "Could this be the Christ?"

Again, the correlation between Satan and music lyrics that promote immorality is obvious,

so the question remains, what about lyrics in between such as this?

Here is an example of a song with "in between" lyrics:
Is it Satanic or pre-CCM/para-Christian/preparatory for the Gospel?

I think the issue with Satan and music was one of pride.

Musicians and vocal artists become pop or rock stars, and are idolised, and that's their downfall. Some genres are more rebellious than others.

Music that uplifts rather than drags people down, is pleasing to God and glorifies Him. We don't need to stroke His ego, just declare that God is good all the time.

If you are going to play music that is a lot of emotion, thats ok, its like Lamentations. But it can't be all about you.

What was his name the christian artist that died in a plane crash. Forgot...
He became so popular that he got idolised.
CCM is just Christian music that got commercialised to imitate worldly rock music. It merched to rock fans.

Cliff Richard loved rock n roll initally but considered giving it up when he became a Christian.
Elvis made his start in rock n roll but later in life he hated playing it and preferred gospel. But the fans wouldn't let him.

it's an Andrew Lloyd Webber 'rock opera' basically telling the story of Mary Magdalene - in this particular song. Obvs she's not a Christian...yet.

Jesus Christ Superstar was Jesus as viewed by Judas. Judas was in a nutshell jealous/envious of Jesus fame.

Jesus Christ Superstar features a range of genres, 'I don't know how to love him' is a ballad, and a searing torch song.

It expresses Mary's very human love for Jesus. It's heartbreaking and gets me every time. Some songs are like that.

God does say that those who come to him with a broken and contrite heart, He will not despise.

We don't necessarily need to 'Shout to the Lord'. As some songs want us to do. Just make a joyful noise.

Music is really something to be enjoyed, and praise worthy, it's not really like a hammer (although MC Hammer was a christian) at least, that's how I view it. (or hear it)

I don't need to look at a music video. I want to be able to hear the lyrics that aren't fighting against the music. When pitch perfect singers sing, it's amazing. Harmony is also a wonderful thing, and involves many people. It's not always a battle/anthem/war cry.

Keith Green.
yep
His most famous song Lord you are beautiful...but it was also a lot about him (Keith)
Also, Jesus wasn't really beautiful, his appearance was nothing special. In the physical sense.
